Exactly what I was thinking. My first Porsche was 944S - they are great cars. You can find an extremely good one at $9,000 and a very solid driver for considerably less.

However, like any old car, condition must be carefully considered and a PPI is a very good idea, especially if you are new to the cars.

A good first Porsche is one that is solid and ready to drive from the get-go. Save a project until later (if you really want to go that route).

Final word of advice: Fixing up an air cooled 911 to a good standard is a very expensive endeavor, even if you do most of the work yourself. Ask me how I know...

That book is an ok read. He used to be on Pelican a bit.

But, I lived it, and it's more fun to do it in person, albeit $$$$.
