Hey everyone, thanks for all the great information this site. I've been casually looking at 911's for awhile now (996's) but an older car (1978?) came available locally that seems interesting. It's a Strosek widebody car from what I can tell. I honestly like the way it looks minus the front fenders.
I'm not sure if I can post links yet but here's the CL ad. Information is less than adquate, but does anyone see any red flags? This price seems like it may be a little high, from what I have seen online the body kits decrease value correct?

Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks everybody.
Evan

Yeah the car has been up for awhile, if it didn't have those front fenders I bet it would already be sold. I wonder if something more stock appearing would still fit back on.

Seems like a fair deal considering the engine is newly rebuilt (hopefully right) as well as the other newer parts. The front fender and bumper can be replaced and shouldn't cost too much. I'd make a lower offer taking into account cost for the replacement front end parts and see if the seller bites. If it's been up for a while hopefully he's ready to move it with a serious buyer. Be sure to get a PPI first if you proceed with the purchase.

if you were in the market for a 996 then i would stick with looking for a 996. Good value in a 996.
This 1978 widebody is not going to give you the same user friendliness as stock 996 and would be money down the drain.
Personally, i think this 1978 is an abortion on wheels.... the wheels, the bodywork, the engine.... walk away.

See it in person, ask for service records and engine rebuild receipts. Drive the car, look for obvious issues. The wheels can be changed. According to others, the fenders can be swapped. It may be a good find for that price. See if they will negotiate to a level to modify it to your taste and fix any ppi and other issues. They are getting less affordable.
