Default Help picking a 911sc or a 964

I am trying to decide on a next car and was looking for some help. I recently sold my Cayman S and picked up a 135i but am itching to get something a bit older. I am interested in a 911sc or a 964 but have not had a chance to ride/drive in either. I was wondering if there was anyone that was in the Pasadena/Los Angeles area with either that would be interested in going for a drive and giving me their thoughts/opinions on the choice?

I've owned both. The 964 is much more refined and comfortable. It has all the creature comforts and the AC / Heater works well. I enjoyed my 964 C4 as a daily driver. The SC is much rawer, not as comfortable but a lot more fun to drive when you want to push it.

The above comment is correct except I'd not say 'raw'.
Newer cars isolate you from the road...cocoon you and pass on information thru the gauges etc.
In the older 911's you get information thru the seat of your pants, hands, feet....you feel the road seriously and that's what I fell in love with.
You can enjoy the driving experience at 50 mph as the car talks to you telling you exactly what's going on with the tranny, motor, tires, brakes and the road. Honest and consistent.
I'm new to the 911 experience (2+ years with '83 SC) but have to say of all the sports cars I've driven it offers the most 'satisfying' drive.

Who should you marry... the bubbly blonde aerobics instructor or the hot brunette financial analyst? What tastes better, pizza or cheesesteaks? What is the sound of one hand clapping.

Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong with either.... test drive some of each, and buy the one you like best.

Go for the 964 over the SC. IMHO the 964 is the strongest evolution of the 911 after you pass 1973. 993 takes that refinement one step further but I feel that market is particularly hot pricing wise right now- 964 are still sleepers.

Was going over this same debate for the last year. After owning a 944s2 track car and then two different mitsubishi rally cars, I wanted a 911 to play with. I had been fond of 964s for years and decided to go after one. I drove a number of them, but after each car I left feeling indifferent. This strange courting went on for almost a year before I found my 81 SC. Despite it being far more gutless then my M coupe daily, I somehow fell in love with it. Now I have sold my M coupe and am prepping the SC for rally as we speak. Needless to say they are both great cars, but the simplicity of the SC somehow pulled me in... Drive them both!

How about one of each? Choices are just too hard sometimes!

I've had both. 964 all the way, for me.

I love my 79 SC with no heat and no air and drive it as much as I can, but I'd love to add a 964 to my selection. You can never have too many Pcars, I'm still trying to convince my wife of that.

Solomon speaks.

The decision is simple.... buy both of them.

See how easy life is when you apply the second-level wisdom you get from Rennlist...
