Question R.O.W. 2.7 Engine ???

Okay so my father and I have been trying to figure out exactly what was factory equipment on our recent purchase of our 1974 911. We visited the http://middleyear911.com site and found that it has a 2.7 R.O.W. engine. "R.O.W - or "Rest of World" typically referred to engines destined for Europe"

I found that this engine has about 25 more hp over the normal 2.7 and 8.5:1 vs 8.0:1

Can anyone expand on what this engine is?

Thx!

Send the forum the engine serial number and the 911s chassis number/VIN. Then it can be determined what you should have and what you do have.
Ciao,
Adrian

PS: Please read engine serial number from the actual engine.

Let's see here is the information I pulled from the engine. The first was a serial listed on the large fan up front:
901 106 101 5R

The next is a number right above the last serial given:
911T/911S CID 163,9 Engine Family 1

V.I.N. #
9114 103 776

Any help as to what this designates would be greatly appreciated.

THX!

I think the normal 2.7's in North America were 8.5 compression. My 77 911S Targa owner's manual lists the compression at 8.5.

May be. According to middleyear911.com 74 2.7's with my VIN serial had the R.O.W. 2.7 and the non R.O.W.'s had the 8.0:1 compression.

Can anyone clear this up for sure.

Thx

You have a G series '74 911 coupe, engine type 911/92 8:1 cr, 150hp@5700, 175ft-lb@3800. That was the basic 911 engine for that year, I keep forgetting about them.

Thanks Bill!

Nice to know what I have now. R.O.W. would have been nice, but thats okay. We plan on dropping in a 3.0 at some point down the line regardless.

150hp sure seems like a lot more while driving it. Maybe because I am more connected to the road vs my bimmer, the somewhat heavy luxury cruiser. haha
