Default Brake Fluid Color

I have put the 911 away for winter and while doing so the mechanic who also stores cars on site commented on the brake fluid color, recommending a flush. He's a low pressure guy, quite knowledgeable. I recalled that the fluid had been replaced in May of this year by the PO, with documentation via service slip from C&G Performance in Sedgwick PA. I'm told they are a legit shop. Here is the question, would the color of fluid be visible through the reservior? It appears certianly dark enough to see easily through the plastic. Possible that the fluid is colored? Sorry for the crazy questions. I'll likely replace the fluid before spring to be sure, but seems odd that the service would be done so recently with that result. I appreciate any info. Thanks, Steve

ATE Blue fluid is somewhat dark, and certainly visible in the reservoir.

Thanks Ed. Can I assume that the fluid color will actually have a blue tinge? I can check that. Have read some concerns with this and reservior discoloration. May be best to flush. Thanks

That is correct. Some alternate between their Blue and their Gold during flushes to confirm they are pushing out new fluid when each wheel is bled.

Believe it or not ATE is being forced to stop selling one of the two colors, I believe its the blue, due to some antiquated federal law they finally fell victim to.

I can tell you that my new Brembo race fluid looks amber - much like nasty old fluid.

Do you know which fluid was used in the spring?

Repair slip didn't indicate an amount, only that it was replaced. Prior service records intermittently describe replacement as we'll, so it feels legit. For those who may know this shop, they may feel very confident about the work. This string leads me it conclude that 2014 will be ok. I'll replace for 2015. Thanks for the replies. Steve

For normal driving, usually the brake fluid flush interval is every 2 years regardless of mileage. So if the most recent flush was earlier this year, it might be a little early at this point.
