Back in the Porsche Fold after a 5 year vacation!
Hi all,
Used to have a 997 'S' when i lived in LA. Been back in London since 09' and recently came across a 930 that i had to snap up, which i did. I then found out a friend was selling a phenomenal 993 which i also bought on a whim as it was too good to miss out on! You could say i'm well and truly back into my Porsche's!
930:
1989 Supersports (basically a turbo without the engine) with so much work into it (to the tune of $70k) that it's quite insane!
143k on the clock, however it's just had a complete upper and lower engine rebuild 3000 miles ago by the best in the business in the UK - Tuthills. Had a new clutch etc. about 10k ago at a main dealer which is nice.
Spec:
Custom Exhaust
RSR front and rear bumpers.
Ducktail spoiler.
1974 RS mirror on driver side only - ordered another one as it's a bastard to park without one in Central London!
Complete respray aside from the roof with any areas that needed attention sorted.
200kg's of weight removed.
RS Door cards
Radio delete
centre console delete
rear wiper delete
lightweight brand new carpets throughout
Ultra light weight driver and passenger seats!
rear seatbelt delete
Original Fuchs at the front with custom Braids at the back along with custom tyres and geo which is ultra aggresive.
Momo wheel
Clock removal on the dash to save weight - the previous owner was nuts!
Carbon fibre rear strip.
Custom Graphics in grey to mirror the RS look.
So many more things that i'm probably forgetting.
The car defines character and my god is it fun without the power steering - it's like a gokart! Sounds absolutely phenomenal too!
Have a few pics but i've taken it into the shop for all the work previously mentioned and some items i just approved today:
Adding an ultra light radio and components (small sub, sinfoni amp, morel speakers and the Porsche classic nav head unit), new alarm & tracker, redoing the seal on the front windscreen as it's not perfect, light weight rear clusters that saves 3kg coming in at 350grams , new strut brace and a few other bits and bobs. It's so easy to drop money on these cars but this is an absolute keeper, especially as i have all of the original bumpers and sills etc.
Overall, delighted with it!
Further work currently being done:
Respray the whole roof as they found a small amount of rust around the windscreen. For some reason the previous owner had the entire car resprayed bar the roof and hood, so i'll address the rust now as it's needed and i'll respray the rest of the car again at xmas as the paintwork isn't up to the standard my bodywork shop wants to see on the car. New rear screen rubber seals. Rear Porsche red strip to get rid of the horrible Carbon fibre thing there.
Spent about $12k on it so far. Labour of love!

The 993 is an absolute beast! Never driven such an aggressive and tight car!

Couple of nice cars there ...
I think the nomenclature must vary a little country to country .. a 930 is a 911 turbo .
I think what you have is what we would coin in N/A as a Turbo-look ( 3.2 with a 915 5 speed gearbox with Turbo everything else. ) . I cant remember the option code but someone will come along .. a very nice one indeed and looks great with that script down the side.

How was the 200kg weight reduction done? I pulled out almost all insulation and rear seats, run bare metal in the back, installed lighter Recaros but I don't think I am at the 100kg mark yet. How much you think are the bumpers? Like 25kg saving?
Edit: I see no heater blower in the back, so probably also no footwell blowers. Still 400 pounds is impressive. I would like to achieve that too. I am gonna buy cheap scales (for one tire) so I can stop guessing where I am.

I can't quite recall exactly what was done but:
No ac, heater removed, insulation removed, lighter manual front seats installed, dash clock removed, rear seat pads removed, rear seat belt removed, radio delete, light weight carpets. Under the hood there's no carpet, a tiny battery, no spare or tool kit, centre console was removed, side sills removed, old front and rear bumpers removed and replaxed with fibreglass pieces along with fibreglass ducktail as opposed to the whaletail, carbon fibre light strip, exhaust removed and replaced with a super lightweight and evil sounding one! Probably more that i'm missing.
Oh, and i just added lightweight rear clusters that cost me almost $750.00 that reduce the weight from 3kg's down to 350 grams! These were bought not only to save weight but the originals had rusted and were looking tatty.
I was thinking of putting in perspex windows all around and lightweight glass on the front screen but now that i've got the 993 trackday beast there's not much point as i'll be trying to hit the same target on two different vehicles and it's not worth it.
