Default 911 with 3.6

I know this is somewhat of a tall order but does anyone know where I can find a 1986.5+ (G50) with a 3.6? Any websites dedicated to these types of builds? I need to find a stable mate for my 996 and I am interested in finding a completed car of this nature.

I have searched thru sites like patrickmotorsports and pelican but just to know where else to have a looksie.

Thanks for reading.

JT

the G-50 with a 3.2 is a very capabale vehicle and desireable enough to leave in stock form . i am sure they are out there converted to 3.6 but the gains are just not there like they would be from an SC ( the more common variant )

JT,

JMHO, but rather than buying someone's compromised version of such conversions, why don't you have one done just for you??

This is a classic case of "the devil is in the details" and this is what determines how reliable such conversions will be.

I'm currently in the middle of a 95 3.6 conversion on my 89 Carrera and believe me, you get to know every part of your car, especially when you do all the work yourself.
At least you're sure that no corners have been cut in the build ... in my case anyways !

Although it's more time consuming than i would like,it will be very rewarding when my creation hits the track at the end of the month

Just sayin ...

Cheers

Well, I guess.....makes me sad to tell you because I wanted this car...
Try Aston Martin of New England...it's a Red 1980, a real beast, I've driven it, twice. I loved the car, a real driver, not a show winner, but built 'right' with no expense spared anywhere...engine, RS interior, suspension etc. The owner (it's on consignment) just wants too much money...Turned me down at $38k, and I thought that was 'all the money'. You and others might think differently.

I also would recommend building the car yourself. This way your in control of the way it's built. Plus you'll have the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

I've got visions of building a high horsepower engine for my car, but first things first. I'll be starting an extensive suspension upgrade within weeks. After this is done, I'll know the car will have a solid foundation for future modification. Then I will move on to the transmission. Then to the engine. This is at least how I'm going about it. I'll have the satisfaction of doing it myself and know it's been done right.

Good luck with whatever you do! These cars really get addictive!

Nick,

For what it's worth,i'm into my car for 60K at least if you add the 25K i paid for it and all the $$$ i spent on three sets of wheels,996TT brakes, full suspension from Sanders,Tarett and ER,two sets of"R" compounds, headers, mufflers and now 3.6 engine and conversion parts...

So,yes a "correctly built and sorted" car can be expensive and i bet the seller is probably losing 10-15 K on it !

Cheers !

If it is 'sorted' and everything upgraded along with the 3.6 then you have lots of hours in the car not to mention the new lump and parts. I'm sure the original owner is upside down in this unless he did everything himself.
Ice...try to figure out what you've put in your SC...I don't really think about it except in general terms (to save my sanity).

Awesome feed back everyone, thank you for all the replies. If had the resources and patience, id love to take a project like this on my own.

I just "need" another 911 to love and flog when my fat pig 6TT is sidelined. I will probably get a 993 but if the stars align I'd love to get an earlier nine eleven to rape & pillage the streets and local tracks of Seattle.

Cat et al,

This current owner bought this car from the guy who built it. The shop who built it has given me all the details, and they said he put $68k into it; nothing but the best. It's an older RS clone, fiberglass panels, carpet, door cards, duck tail etc., that's got 168k on the chassis and 70k on the rebuilt 3.6.

Knowing the shop, the mechanic who actually built the car and after driving it, I was/am smitten. It's driver quality and I was going to use it as my DD lightweight hot rod, and track it whenever.

That all being said, I valued it at no more than $38k. I wish he had said yes, but I wasn't going higher just because I was in love....I've moved on, and you guys should be seeing my car(s?) on the site soon!

good luck Omen!

Nick

So we've been doing these things for..........I think I did my first one in '91...........and maybe 5% turn out any better than half-assed?

Most are far less than the sum of their parts. The last one I did, my own '74 widebody circa 1998, is in the hands of a good friend now. Even driving 2K miles + 3-4 track days a year over that time have me looking at the car as a complete teardown/rebuild today.
