Default shopping for an aircooled 911

I am on the lookout for a 911 70's or 80's
I had several 928 and bmw 850 so I am used to those little diva's
I found a craigslisting and was wondering what you fellas think of it.
alternatively, do you know of a nice one for sale?

Personally, I would pass on a 1970 car turned into.... that.
There is just so much not right there.

Find yourself a nice SC or Carrera.

What would the value of a 'tuned' car like that one be? It still is a 1970 under all that bling.
So I don't know if there is much resale value there

Poor thing. They turned a $30,000 short hood VIN number into a pile of crap. Had they gone the other way and turned an '86 into a '70 then, ya, jump on it, but who does this kind of crap? I can't fathom the destruction that went on under all that fiberglass. Adding impact bumpers (incorrectly, I may add) to a short hood is mind numbing.

On the bright side I love the foliage that looks like my uncle's place on Lantana Island.

Yeah, ruined. Probably back in '93 when most longhoods, even an S, were next-to-worthless POS. (Where were all of you who should have been buying them up and storing them, having consulted your crystal *****????) Lived the era, made money doing this stuff to them, most were a whole lot less than the sum-of-parts. Surprised to see survivors still pop up.

When the crash bumpers were integrated into the body--1974 model year.

Look at an original '73. Up to that point they're pretty much all like that. Look at an original '74. Up until the end-of-production for the torsion bar chassis in '89, they're pretty much all like that.

It's all out there to search, either here or generally online. Best bet is to pick up Pete Zimmerman's book.

You've got all us here + the wealth of the internet + some very good (and not so good) books out there.

I, in 1980 as a kid just out of high school, had..............luck.

So I ventured down the path bastardizing a near-worthless '68 coupe (top photo) that would now probably be worth a tidy sum, into a wannabe 930/IROC with a 2.7RS engine a couple of years later (bottom photo). It WAS all the rage at one time.

If your open to Cabriolets, your requirements should tighten. The supply is greater, demand is lower ( I don't agree with the market here) and you can get a hell of a car for the value. Prices, in my opinion, are very very good for these cars. People just want coupes.
However, I already own a CAB, which is why I'm looking for a Coupe or Targa.

Thank you for that bit of advise, Nick. I wouldn't mind a cabriolet
