Would you trust a PPI done by a P-dealer if that's who you would be buying it from?

Would you trust a PPI done by a P-dealer if that's who you would be buying it from?
More specifically Porsche of Colorado Springs. Looking at a reasonable mileage 79-SC, been on E-bay for a month or more. 15" aftermarket rims and repainted but no PPI yet. Not sure if they would charge me for the PPI or not but would trust the results if they came from the seller or would you try to find an independent shop? Link to the ad on Ebay below. Been looking for a while and having a hard time as the prices on these early 911's are creeping higher every day! Thanks for any advice.

Not everyone is a crook so it might be ok but, I'd rather have a party that has no interest in the vehicle at all do the PPI as they will tend to be more critical.
The PPI should be a bargaining tool for the sell price and they have a dog in the fight. They may 'overlook' what they consider 'minor wear' issues that an indy will point out.

Aside from the possible conflict of interest, I would much prefer an independent shop that works on air cooled cars. Most dealers just don't have much experience with the older cars.

I'm inclined to agree. They are forwarding me the results from the PPI and the service history this afternoon. I will post in the hopes that some of the awesome folks here on Rennlist might be willing to weigh in. Anyone aware of any indy shops in C-Springs that might be able to do a PPI?

The PPI needs to be done by a third party with "no dog in the fight." If the seller (dealer/independent shop/used car lot/individual) does the PPI then your essentially taking their word for it with or without any inspection

Do you want a color change car? PPI or not, if something like that could ever bug you, then maybe this isn't the right car for you.
Also, do you live in a smog test area? Good to see the car does have the air pump. But at 35 years old, the EGR system or any of the miscellaneous stuff car can trip you up. (Did I see an MSD in place of the stock ignition box?)

It MUST be a third party, Indy who specializes in Porsches,...period,...do not compromise this (for your own benefit). And, as everyone has noted, it's important that they have "no dog in the fight". (that would also include any recco's from the dealer or owner).

I would not take my Porsche to a dealer for anything, ever. I would buy parts from them if my fav indie parts guy couldn't get them cheaper, but for 99.9% of the time, there is no reason to go to the dealer.

I like to go to the dealer to see the expensive jackets/shirts (made in China)
and well...
then I leave thinking they have nothing I want/need/can afford
and they agree with me

What I meant more was on the color change, if you'd ultimately be happy. Silver has to be among the easiest to "hide", white and black being the others. But I've probably done 7 or 8 full color changes, and no way, no how does the average body shop go to the extent you need to in order to eliminate all traces of factory original.

Make sure the Native American Blanket in the trunk is included (and that its not made in India/China/Pakistan.)..also make sure that the car has the advertised 6 speed transmission
Other than that it is good looking car..but get an indy to do the PPI

Silver tag, I laughed hard at that blanket remark. The six speed thing was one of my first questions too. They were referring to 5 plus reverse. PPI he was talking about was not any kind of reall inspection. If I decide to proceed, I will make arrangements for an independent PPI.
