Default Aluminum is fragile.

So, being stupid after installing a Seine gateshift, I put the shifter back in with a Weltmeister short shift kit, not thinking about a small gap under the shifter housing were the shift rod bushing bracket would normally be and I over-torqued the bolt. This resulted in a cracked shift housing. 5 cent washer would've helped here. Anyway, this sent me on a quest through ebay and other online sources to find a replacement shift housing. The 2 that I did find were both about 200.00. Rennshift was an option, but I already bought the Seine unit. Spending another 600.00, or so bucks on a shifter, while I have a lot other work to do on the car, did not seem prudent. Stopped by local independent Porsche shop for CV joints and just casually asked if they had a shift housing. They said they might have a used one. Came back with what's in the second pic. (I spent a little time polishing it up. It was pretty rough.) But had an interesting gate type spring load for the 1st and 2nd gear plane and a super long shift arm. I said how much for the whole thing. He says, 100 bucks. Done. So what is this? Early type of Seine, or home made neutral return. Kinda cool.

Yup... next time just take it to a local machine shop and they will be able to weld it for you.

But new/old one you got looks pretty...

BTW that looks like one of mine or an early seine - the first few I made looke just like that but are not anodized....is it painted?

also you will want a gate to keep from wearing out your 1-2 gears - let me know if you want that...Sherwood will not sell "parts"

I have gates alone if you want to avaoid a 915 rebiuld in your near future - Ill find a pic of my early homemade springs

plus if you have a factory SSK that will need modification - I have the details of that - if standard shifter you are good to go with that - minus the gate

Thanks ivangene. The aluminum part is anodized. The bolt looks to be a 80mm M10. My though was just to swap the gate from the Seine shifter over, but your option sounds better. If this works to my liking then I can sell the Seine kit. Thinking about going to normal shift length arm and getting rid of the Weltmeister shift arm and plate. Probably cut down the one it came with and have another gate tab welded to it. Bead blast and powder coat it. Let me see how this works and if it goes okay, you're welcome to the cracked housing.

Sherwood made the early ones like the one you have there

I am now making an all internal one so same benefit, nothing showing outside

Those look awesome. The m10 bolt makes those look a lot more robust. If you have any springs and gate plates to sell, I'm interested.

good point amber - I am trying to retro fit a 901 and having a hell of an time at it

and yes, I have many kits available - bits and pieces to fill your desires - mix and match, custom
I am on the edge of launching the newest style so these older styles are just what I have laying around - I never tried to sell them other than a few to friends and for myself -
