I pulled these from my 1986 with 42k miles in hopes of getting them rebuilt (slight weeping). Porsche dealer said "no can rebuild" due to liability. Oh well.

Now I have these calipers AND the brand new rebuild kit, hoping a Rennlister can use them. Will go very inexpensively. Just cleaning out garage for more toys and projects.

That's interesting-never heard of a CYA stance like that. Another bit of evidence that most Porsche dealers are the last place to go for any kind of service on an air-cooled 911.

Do you have an Indy in your area-unless the calipers are pitted, or something that would cause concern, you certainly don't have the only calipers on the planet that need rebuilding, and there is someone who would love to do the work for you.

Thanks Ed. You know, I might actually do this my very own self. I'm fully laden with projects at the moment. I guess the rebuild kit alone is worth $50 or so. I never looked at the calipers, nor did the dealership. They just vowed, "we can't do that". Anyway, hopefully someone on here can use them.

And BTW, 'Sapphire" is looking better than ever! (Avatar is new to me; I drifted toward the 'F-cars' after Porsche ownership.) Thanks,

Here is my un-ed-u-macated opinion. They can be rebuilt and Ed is correct about the dealers and air cooled P cars.

White Post is in your general area (Virginia), box em' ship em'. They can do it. And, they insert a bronze or stainless sleeve so your problems are finished.
I've done rebuilds on calipers far older than '86 and they work every stinkin' time.

I am tempted to just buy these, rebuild them and swap for mine

It depends on where the brake fluid is leaking from. If the leaking is from the piston o-rings, then those can be replaced fairly easily. If it's from between the caliper halves, then not so much....

The term "rebuild" should mean a complete re-machining, replacement of all parts, etc. I think most of us really mean o-ring replacement and easy stuff like pins and seals when we think of rebuilding brake calipers.

You guys have always given great info. I didn't know the source for repairing the leaking halves. As these parts are in the $350ish range from a dealer or $280ish range EACH from aftermarket, seems wise to build and keep. I would think $50 would be considered a bargain of some caliber.

I've got the hots for a 993 now or I'd keep them myself. Hope someone on here buys them for their Carrera. I cleaned them up a bit and see no weeping whatsoever between the halves.

Given the mileage on the car they were removed from (46k) I'd say it started from sitting for so long. Guy in his 70's (for whom repair expenses were NOT an object, I assure) just didn't drive it much for 2 years.

I'll second Eric at PMB...for the money I don't think you can do better...he restores the calipers not rebuild them. I had mine done over a year ago and they still look brand new.

Wait? Who said they were actual size? These are for a 1/32nd MODEL of a 911. Thought that was clear! Got a laugh at your reponse, and thanks.

Apparently someone (perhaps you?) agrees and just bought them. The 100% actual full-scale sized calipers and rb kit are SOLD. Thanks all.

Dear Mr. A Hudson,

there were several factors in involved in the purchase of your calipers.
First, I am looking for an '86 911 Coupe but will consider an '84 and '85.
Second, my mom was born in Birmingham Al. See how all this ads up?..........weak at best I know, but, it is my justification.

I figure if I provide enough parts in the garage a coupe will magically appear.
