Default Turn signal question

Shouldn't my turn signal "clicker" automatically shut off after I have completed my turn!?!?! I shouldn't have to bring it back manually every time!

It's an 86 Carrera, they had that technology then right?

Should be self canceling. Do you have to manually turn off for left and right?

I'm at the hospital at the moment, new grandbaby i'll have to consult my bently manual when I get home. I would think it's a simple plastic piece that is broke but then again it is a porsche. I didn't see anything relating to cancellation switch, just the turn signal part only. Might be all one unit?

There is a little Plastic tab located behind the steering wheel that cancels the turn signal, you can see a picture in the fourth picture in this thread; https://rennlist.com/forums/911-1968...stall-diy.html

If this tab is missing your turn signal will not cancel. Some members have reported a non cancelling signal due to replacing their steering wheels and forgetting to remove this part from their old steering wheels and putting it on their new ones.

If this is not the cause I leave it to the more knowledgeable members to address your issue, and wish you good luck.

Could be the problem as I have recently done work on the steering wheel.

Thanks.

If you put your steering wheel on with your turn indicator not in the center it will snap off the litle plastic tab that cancels the signal.
Ask me how I know ......

This is a very common breakage item on the turn signal switch assembly. Unfortunately, the entire assembly will have to be replaced. How you orient the steering wheel when the wheel is reinstalled is critical or you will break that little white tab--again!

One other thought, it is possible the cancellation tab is there but not oriented correctly. My new (to me) had this issue and when I removed the steering wheel, I found the tab was 180 degrees off.

I just replaced my wheel and I was totally confused with where that tab was supposed to be upon re-assembly. Seemed 180 degrees off from where I thought it should be.
