Default Please help me figure out value

Hi guys, here's the story. I didn't go on vacation with the intent of looking for a car, but it just happens that a friend of my brother-in-law and going through some "life changes" and is selling his 1988 911 (assuming 930). He is the original owner, has put 41,900mi on the car and has serviced it at the same place it was purchased just down the road in northern NJ for the last 25yrs. It's a Gaurds Red over black base 911 with full leather and upgraded suspension from the factory. I wish I had taken some pics, but overall looks to be a 9/10 int and ext. Starts right up and drives well. He claims nothing has ever failed/broken on the car and it has never been modified/hit/painted (bother-in-law vouches for him). I've been looking for a nice older car to take around to shows/meets and had never really considered a 930. What could it be worth? One owner, low miles, time capsule all the way down to stereo and car phone. He's got money and no apparent motives other than to find it a good home..

Thanks for the help. I'm generally more active over on 6speed with my 997tt, but may have to spend more time over here now

get the best price you can haha but if he was asking 45k+ I wouldn't be surprised.. If you could get it for 40k or under I'd say you got a good deal

I'm such an idiot typing late at night! The car i'm looking at here on vacation in a 1988... non-turbo, all original, unmolested. I currently have a 2008 997tt. I've fixed the first post, sorry

Well thats a little more clear i think .. an 88 911 is a ..well... 88 911 ... a 930 is a turbo so at least we know what your talking about .. you are looking for the value of 88 911 Carrera .. the 88 Carrera is a nice car to be sure .. all depends on milage looks and PPI in my book. I would think you are looking in the range of anywhere from 19-29K in my mind depending on condition based on what i have seen. I am sure those with these cars will weigh in with more specific numbers as i tend to quote a tad low

Thanks! I'll take all the input I can get. Yes, 1988 911. I thought that body style was "930". Sorry for confusion, I had never really considered one until it was in front of me. Like I said, 40k mi, one owner, one dealer ever, red/black, 8.5-9/10 condition, time capsule (never changed or molested).

I went over to get some pics today and unknown to me, the camera malfunctioned

Anyway, here are some bad pics. I still have no idea regarding what should be paid for said car. It looks nice in the sun..

Hi:

Assuming a clean ppi/as described/absolutely no issues or needs: I'd say the car would get "retail" type money. Anything less than $30k is a good deal for you.

If it needs a couple of minor needs: plastic pieces due to shrinkage, AC charge, tune etc. $25k is a sqaure deal.

Anything less than $25k (with a clean PPI) is nearing a steal.

If you are truly looking for an "around town, shows, clubs" etc, then get it. You are only moving green dollars into a red cash register that can be converted back to cash. You may even hear the "cah - ching" sound of interest when you sell it. Our 997's don't have that feature.

I really appreciate the input. I also assumed $30k if all checks out. We are starting $WAY$ below that and I haven't even made an offer. I may get the PPI ordered tomorrow... need a new sports car like a hole in the head right now, but this might be a great opportunity to break into classic cars without too much drama or expense

Solid Books and Records, a clean PPI, low mile, one owner is a great start to curb future major expenses. In fact, that mileage just means guilt free driving to catch up to some of the 200k + guys.

As the cars are now all over 23 yrs old, the current seller may not have replaced a lot of the "rubber" parts that just rot/shrink/crack. Most fixes can be done over time, with upgraded parts vs. factory specs. This is the slippery slope of $$'s. How/what to spend your dollars on.

I had planned $$'s for bushings and Tie Rods, but found there was no need. I did not need on a upgraded AC as it was already done. I do need to replace a O-ring (I hope that's it) on the compressor - not foreseen.

You decision tree sounds much like mine. Just remember, you will have expenses, but you will most likely get your entry fee money back.

I have loved the time spent locating parts/reading the boards-posts/installing the parts in the evenings etc.

Cheers

Don't know where you are looking for a PPI, but Body Motion in Ocean/Asbury Park would be an excellent place to take it for that. They've been around forever and know these cars inside and out. It won't be cheap, but they will be thorough.

Regards,

Matt

Depends where you are in Northern NJ. PowerTech is in northern NJ (Rockaway, NJ) and the owners are on the advisory panel for the PCA-NNJR.

this car is an 89 YM, Guards Red and full black leather interior, had just over 100k for mileage when purchased 2 years ago this month. Upgrades by previous owner were complete A/C system, K&N filter with Kokeln racing cold air intake, steering wheel, stereo and amp, floor mats and trunk carpet, all new fuel lines, and cosmetic accents in brushed nickel like door handles instrument bezel rings etc... What I've done since ownership is a valve adjustment, oil/filter change, tranny fluid change, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter, ign coil, brakes and rotors, and new voltage regulator, new shifter bushings . flew to Austin Tx, met the seller at airport, cruised to his house in Dripping Springs where the car was and from there my son and I drove back to Clarksville Tn. Great car and just love it to death!!!! now your probably wondering what I paid? Well I hope this doesn't shock you but it was 17,401.00
As the pics can testify this car is 9.5 out of a 10.

certainly twice as much mileage as the one your interested but sweet anyway! Good luck with it!
