Default How to make exhaust note louder?

I have searched for an hour with negative results. So, i already have my early 911 muffler modified as pictured. The internals are stock.

I want it louder BUT straight pipes are going to be too loud. Thanks in advance for any links or suggestions on how to find a happy medium between what i have (moderate) and straight pipes. Thanks!

You drive a porsche already. Why do you want to draw attention to yourself. I never could understand that
Just sayin

reminds me of my favorite KISS t-shirt i had as a kid. on the back it said:
"if it's too loud, you're too old!"

my 911 is a race car replica hot rod driver and makes no apologies. it's not an original garage queen that only comes out for an occasional pca concours. i drive it to work once a week and set off car alarms with pride.

that said, you think it should sound like a street car? i guess all the ferrari/tubi guys should go back to stock as well?

ps, my next daily driver will be another water cooled carrera with (gasp) pdk

oh ...jus sayin

Nice looking ride love the gulf blue ...from everything I've seen and read you will need to remove some
not all of the internal baffles and your sound will increase,it's mostly sheetmetal with holes cut in it to
direct the flow...Bert

I just noticed it's a '72 as well ,nice...my RS is a '72 with 911/83 Carrera engine just putting in a light weight RSR flywheel
as we speak!

Sweet car.

What engine do you have in it? One way to improve the volume and character of the 'loud pedal' is to open up the airbox.

B&B 2 in 2 out 4.5" exhaust. Had one on my turbo and people could hear me coming from blocks away.

does it have a 2.2 or 2.4? Or bigger?

I had a bursch on my 2.7 and it sounded great. I had a MK on my 3.4 on 993 HE and it sounded great. Now I have a 3.6 with B & B Headers and a 997 center muffler turned into a only muffler - it's loud - but sounds like a big block porsche. Sound is subjective. With a 2.2 or 2.4 I'd be more likely to go with something like the Bursch or glasspack type muffler. Once the displacement goes up - you get more rumble.

thanks Bert. i have seen graphics of the internals and would be inclined to do as you suggested, but was told by a very knowledgeable porsche mechanic it's a science as to what you remvove. I don't want incresed drone.

would love to see pix of your 72!

i do have one who can (they already modded the stock muffler as pictured).
i was ready to do straight pipes, but further research on youtube showed it was going to be a little too much for longer drives (laguna seca is 2.5 hrs).

if i could have straight pipes with something "in-line" so surpress it a little, that would be ideal i think

stock muffler, capped, and two 2.25" pipes out the back. sounds great, but can handle it louder with my custom ear protection for long trips
