Sold the 911 Crossing into the dark 997 side...

I just wanted to thank everybody for all the awesome advice, which enable me to grow from a total 911 NOOB to fixing/enhancing a ton of stuff myself. Things that would have cost me a lot more otherwise.

For those who care:

Bought the 1986 Targa black/black with 44K on the ODO for 18K three years ago. Sold it last week for 17K with 53K on the ODO. I still had the original sticker. It sold in '86 for 33K. These cars keep their value amazingly. Go 911 !

You'll see me around. Here or on the 997 side.

You've been a great audience and goodnight,

Marlon

Hey Marlon, glad to see that it worked out so well!

I was talking to an Ortodontist (I think?) last week. He said that his 997 was "the best car he ever had". I go "really?". He says, yeah, it drives like a Lexus around town but when he gets on the gas, it goes like a Porsche. I was puzzzled. I mean, really stuck. I had to think about it, and I go "that's a good thing, right?" He goes "yeaahh!".

Hey Rusnak, that's a funny anecdote.

I owned a Lexus and I gotta say a 997 S is nothing like it. But needless to say, I will miss the rawness of the 911. What a great car.

Well, at least you kept it in the family, just a younger model...

I see another 911 in my future when the right time comes. For now, I can only afford to own 1 Porsche. Or so my wife tells me

Which is what, or so I was told, the 356 guys said when they finally got into a 911. Rinse and repeat, all the way up to the Armageddon-minus-one-day "911" versus the generation it will have replaced. Just have to decide where you want to get on the merry-go-round of this 911 thing.

(I do generally like the latest water cooleds, just not spending that much on a car.)

Marlon congratulations. I am so happy for you .. The fact that in your lifetime, you got to enjoy a truly great car the Carrera 3.2. The last of a special breed. If the 3.2 had been my first 911 there is no question I would have saved 100k in cash. If you ever miss that special feel, all you got to do is fly down to Seattle. You can have my '86 coupe for the week. It's a promise. If you can swing it, try to get a 997.2 ('09 and later). It truly is a better car although the real bargain is the 997.1 (go for '06 and beyond) and hopefully you are getting. CPO'ed car.

+997

I went from a 07 997.1 to an 09 997.2 and the .2 with DFI, improved electronics, etc. to me is so much more car over the .1.

I bought a 2006 Carrera S, Slate Grey. 40K on the ODO. Clean PPI at TRE Motorsports. Paid 47K. That's enough Porsche for me... for now

I'll post pics soon...
