Interesting story. Wonder if I will have to cut mine down. Even if I do no big deal. It's the rear I need anyway.

Ignore Dan at your own risk.
Nice post, but this thread also only refers to 86-89 and Pelican warns about those 3.2 years as an issue. I am starting to think that the 86-89 Targa Top is different than 84-85 and that is the issue. I also did research on Pelican's site and see that many Targa Top components are up to 85' specifically, which further reinforces my toughts. I think I will do a front seal dry run (not glued) and see how the top fits on it. Glad to know that the Roll bar seal is a non issue.
My dilema is that I brought both seals out to the vacation home awaiting my install and by the time I return, I might be outside the return time frame.

Ed,

Did you have an 84' top? Was it refurbised or from 86-89? As I posted above, Im beginning to think 84-85 tops are different.

Iceman:

E-mail Dan and find out if he will be there. He has been helping me with various Targa issues for years and has very very happy to communicate.

Original '84. As mentioned the new seals sold these days are the 964 variant.

okay i got all my seals ... two top seals look pretty solid and back one is perfect. I am going to assume the front is a 964 seal as others have noticed as it seems beefy but i havent drilled down yet as i am working on the rear one.. Just in time as the old one came out in three pieces in about 30 seconds .. tthe channel is full of old glue and years of filth .. any recommendations for removing the old gue ? I know varsol will do it but was looking for something a little less harsh.

Any suggestions ?

I typically use a good citrus cleaner on this type of work. It degreases and softens up the glue.

I received my front seal from Dan and returning the Pelican one today. I am naturally keeping the Targa bar seal from Pelican. I'll post when I install.

i will try the citrus cleaner and see where we get .. may be a bit of a tricky job as some of the glue is rock hard and you have to work with the roof out so could be a bit messy.

I'll be tackling the install at the end of the month. Won't be at Vacation home till then. Any you tube vids showing the procedure?
