Hi,
well as the relatively new owner of a 81 SC, I am still getting used to all the little things that make this car unique. I don't have the original manuals and my search on this forum has not been able to provide the answer.
I would like to know how many gallons/litres of gas the SC holds. In my quest to figure out the gas mileage and whether or not my gauge is reading properly, the last time I put in close to 70L. This seems too high for me.

sshum,
Don't know what difference the size of the tank makes unless you are trying to calculate how far a tank of gas will take you. To calculate gas mileage, simply fill the tank up, set trip meter to zero, drive - a couple hundred miles or so, then refill tank until full. Take the number of miles driven and divide that number by the number gallons/liters it took to refill the tank. The answer is the miles per gallon/liter. You may want to do this for a month or so to get a more accurate average, or drive for a thousand miles keeping track of how many gallons/liter you put in, then, when you want to do the calculation, fill the tank up. Add all the gallons/liters you used and divide the total milage by that amount.
My '86 Carrera holds 22.4 US gallons or 85 liters (per the owners manual).
Regards,
Jim

All, thanks for the info.
Jet, I'm trying to figure out if my fuel gauge is accurate. My orange light seems to come on really early yet the gauge seems to read slightly less than 1/2 tank. When I continue to run the car with the orange light on, the gauge never seems to drop much past the 1/4 mark. I was a little surprised when I stopped to fill up (didn't want to risk running out totally) and I was able to put in close to 70 liters.
I thought that these cars would have smaller tanks. I don't ever recall filling up my Boxster or 993 with 70 liters. And I know that my Audi only takes about 60 liters.
Thanks again.

I thought my '86 had only a 20 gal tank but if Jet911 is correct I was low ( I'm going to look at my owners manual).
Compared to my recent sedans it does have a big tank, especailly for a smaller/< 2700lb vehicle.
I suspect this is because the body geoemtry allows it and more importantly it allowed the engineers to get more weight up front.

Plenty big. Big enough that the other day, at a constant speed of 85-90mph, I was able go drive without stopping for over 6 hours in my 3.2. And I still had a good quantity of gas left.
