964 vs 993
Looking for some help! I've owned a few 993's and I found a 1994 964 C2 Fully Loaded for sale around $32,000 with 52 miles. Clean car, but not sure if I am going to like since i've been a 993 loyalist for many years. Some have told me it drives great similar to the 993. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I owned a 993 C2 for several years. Absolutely loved the car. Sold it when we had our daughter - big mistake. Bought a kid hauler and saved my dough for the next 911.
Picked up my '87 911 last summer. It is miles apart from the 993. And I absolutely love the car.
My opinion but...
911s, 964s and 933s all have the same underlying character and feel. They are vastly different in performance and 'niceties'. The 964 is definitely closer to the 993 on performance and 'niceties'.
I have driven a few 964s and agree that they do drive more similar to the 993 than a 911 - as expected. You should definitely drive a few 964s before making the leap, but I bet you'll be happy...
I haven't priced 964s in quite some time, but that seems a bit pricey no?

Thank you for the feedback. The car has 18" tires upgraded and is clean car. Probably worth more like $28k or $29k. However to find a clean one may be worth the extra dollars. Oh decisions to make!

964 v 993
993's are more refined "softer" cars than 964's. maybe one too many gears for anything but freeway driving. 964's are essentially early 911's with a 3.6 twin plug engine that really moves out plus a few niceties like A/C that works and power assisted steering. i currently have 2 964 coupes and am looking for a 964 cab. with that said, i also wouldn't mind getting another 993. it's a dilemma.

52 miles? Or 52K? That kind of money is in 993 territory. I think you can find nice 993's for about $30K, in the 60-70K mile range. I know I did....
A really nice 50K mile 993 would probably be low $30's. No way I'd pay that for a 964.

I agree, it seems like you are looking in the same price range for the most part. Try and 964 and see which one you like better. I am a HUGE 993 fan and that would be my first pick, but the 964 is a close second.

Market perception draws more distinction between these cars than actual hardware or performance.
Any 3.6 is a a spectacular car, especially when compared to the pre '90 torsion bar cars. Nothing against the 'early' cars by any means, but the evolutionary jump to the 964 was huge...not so much the jump to the 993.

From certain angles a 964 (not turbo) looks a little slab-sided, especially with D90s. I do like looking over the fenders from the drivers seat though.

964 bias here.
While mechanically the 964 may be closer to the 993 than the 911 SC's, I view the look of the 964 much closer to the 911 SC and the 993 closer to the 996 and 997. This is due mainly to the "bug eye" headlights.
To that end I feel that "bug eye" is a necessary part of the iconic Porsche 911 look.
Here's to the iconic "bug eye" look.

$32K seems high unless the miles are indeed 52. If 52 mi it is a museum piece. If 52K mi the price is high, even $28-29 seems high. I would love it if the market was going up like that, but alas...
These car came with 16 and 17 wheels and while 18's can be fit, I personally think the 17's are the sweet spot. So no premium for the 18's.
Looks is a personal item so if you like the classic lines of the 911 the 964 will be pleasing. The 993 also has nice lines so pick your poison.
The 964 can claim to be the last hand built Porsche. Plus or minus?
The 964 retains the relative lightness of feel of the earlier cars, I know, they had been getting heavy year over year. The 993 no longer has any allusion of lightness, yet it is very competent.
For a great read on 964's from the early car crowd, this will give you something to think about including values.
