Post what's a high miles porsche?

i'm poor so i only have around 10k to play with which only will buy high miles Porsches. (120,000-215,000) will the engine die at this point? I'm scared with miles that high that the engine is trashed with people driving it rough. any advice?

Hello

Milage isn´t a wear indicator.

Cold starts and heavy usage under cold conditions kill engines.

The only usefull indicators are compression, leak down & oil consumption.

My advice to you is to do a lot of research and clearly identify what you want to get out of your car. From your other posts, you mention low 1/4 mile times. As others have said, not realistic on the $10k budget mentioned in your other posts. To give you an idea of costs, I've dropped over $5k this year on track prep and safety equipment (read: not a single performance enhancement). From your comments, the car you are describing is not a 911.

A well cared for 911 is a fun car which is moderatley priced vis-a-vis repairs and operation. However, a 911 which [I]has not[I/] been cared for is a money-pit and should be avoided unless you have the money or the time/expertise to do the work yourself. Even then, the parts are not cheap.

Advice from "Grusse " is sound .Mileage you indicate is not high for a 911 engine provided it's been cared for--- in the right conditions . However you do have to be realistic in your personal expectations .There are a lot of Porsche enthusiasts who spend a lot of money on their cars and end up with stunningly beautiful or/and stunningly fast cars .So you won't be able to match them. You should find a car which you can afford and which is going to be reliable and set out to enjoy it for what it is . I bought a very original but neglected 1977 2.7 165000 km sportomatic 911 last year for a very good price . I have tidied it up and it is a delight and giving me as much pleasure as a $150000 lightweight super Porsche .

BA says that 7000 to 9000 miles per year is average for a Porsche. Anything over that amount is considered high mileage...anything under is considered low (below avg) mileage.

Deadlyhunter, you state that you're poor, on a tight budget, only 18, etc. While I applaud you for wanting a 911, it sure seems that you might be out of your league on this (for the time being).

I assume this will be your only mode of transportation. An old, high milage 911 isn't always the most dependable car. Repair bills just might put you in the pooooorer house. Have you even priced insurance for an 18 year old with a 911?

i am also going to buy a old "beater" to get me around, right now i think that will be a ford probe. but i think i just need to find the right Porsche; i'm plaining on putting low miles on it so i think if i find the right one the repairs should be small (i hope! lol) but i really really really want a 911 Porsche. It's all i think about anymore I am spending time trying to find out as much as I can about them. In short they might be a bit much for me but I already got the addictive drug called Porsche in my mind I really do thank all of you for you insights about porsches, i've learned so much from reading this forum

You may not put the miles on it, but the previous owner already did the job for you Besides, things like rubber seals just age regardless of mileage. Buying any porsche is not a cheap undertaking. Don't be fooled by the low initial sticker price for an old car. It's low for a reason .... repairs (especially if you have to pay for labour) are quite expensive.

When I was 18, I didn't even give a used porsche a 2nd thought. I bought a Prelude and enjoyed the all-round flexibility of having such a car until I was financially ready for a P-car.

They're great cars, but come at a price ... just be careful not to get in over your head.
