Default Long overdue intro with photos

First, I would like to say, I really enjoy this forum. Thanks to all, for sharing your knowledge. I hope to add some worthwhile contributions, as I continue to learn about these cars.
Now about the car. I purchased it about 5 months ago sight unseen and created the cardinal sin of not getting a ppi. I probably paid too much for it, but I really liked the color combo. I also like survivor type cars. Thank god for a reasonably honest seller. What I ended up with is a 74,500 mile unabused, unmolested car, with 100% original paint. It also has no rust anywhere. It would be truly exceptional if the paint had less scratches. Overall it’s a really nice car.
After 1700 miles of driving, including a trip to Road America for the ALMS race, this is what I’ve found.
1. Oil level has moved maybe an eighth inch from center on the dipstick.
2. A/C doesn’t blow very cold.
3. Passenger door lock doesn’t unlock with key.
4. Horn doesn’t work.
5. Transmission grinds into second at higher rpm shifts.
6. Ignition key and door key are different.
7. All original suspension needs some attention.
8. New all season tires on car are useless
9. It delivered 22 miles to the gallon on a tank with mixed driving.
I wouldn’t hesitate to drive this car anywhere. All I can say is I really like this car. I wish I would have bought a 911 years ago. I can’t wait to work on it. This winter I’ll tune it up with a valve adjustment, rebuild the suspension with some really nice upgrades, and install a Wevo shifter with clutch cable, shift coupler and misc. springs. Next season should bring some great driving. I’m sure I’ll have plenty of questions along the way.

welcome, beautiful colors!

so I assume you are checking the oil when HOT and Running
A/C can be re-charged in most cases...maybe a few hundred bucks if that's all it needs
not sure on the door lock, I found out a month ago my driver door wont LOCK with the key...could have been that way since I bought it, first time I tried so now I will learn about that too! Guessing a micro switch? (hoping)
horn - check fuse, power at horn and steering column - and lastly the horn can be brought back to life, there is a tuning screw...I made a dead one work again... but power is your first check
shift out of first at 4200 or less,...WAIT, PAUSE and it will go into second, this could be a driver issue or something else. There are simple fixes for bushings and coupler adjustments that might help but the driver MUST PAUSE before heading to second!!!
suspension refresh is a great DIY project...if just going to stock NEW...its pretty cheap and rewards are BIG!
all season tires? hahaha!! - OH sorry! UMMM check the pressure and what makes them useless? slip/grip? under steer? over steer? noise? - check date of MFG on the tires...if old replace...if new(er) set pressure correctly
22mpg is horrible... I sometimes get that much but with a little effort you can get that down to the teens without any trouble...breaking teens and down to single digits you get STAR POINTS!!
as for your winter projects I offer a great coupler alternative!!! PM for details!

Great color;

Welcome to the forum, You might consider wet sanding the paint and re-clearcoating the paint. If the scratches are not to deep, I will make a world of diffrence. Worked for me.

Welcome, and beautiful car.

The chance that all your a/c needs is a recharge are pretty slim. They were not great to begin with, and you are typically lookimg at $2-3k to get it workimg right, if it is original.

It sounds like your ignition was replaced at some point.

If you are on original suspension, just wait until you drive the car after you refresh everything, amd ger some good tires under her.

The pausing into second gear is a must, but if you still have issues at higher revs, it is probably time for syncros. Mine shifts fine at any rev, provided you give it that heartbeat of a pause.

heart beat of pause and a throttle blip on that sticky gear should do it. My tranny ('83 SC) has had work and shifts up or down nicely without a noise at all but you can't rush them and a throttle blip will help.

I'd try with the pause only first. If people try throttle blips with no experience on a so-so trans, could do more harm than good. Rev matching on the downshift will do wondersctoo, but same caution applies.

I'd say good advice unless you are use to matching rpms with your throttle foot...I'm teaching the wife to do it...on our Saturn staiton wagon Grind a pound for me while you're at it lol.

That's why I mentioned the same caution applies. Matching with the throttle foot is easy- matching with your heel or the outside of your foot, while braking in earnest (with the same foot) and looking toward the turn after the one you're at, is where it takes practice.

Heel & Toe all the way.

Just watch the opening sequence of "Grand Prix" for a great tutorial...that is heel/toeing...I'll assign that movie as Homework to the wife.

Thanks for the compliments. The color is why I bought the car, along with the low easy mileage and service history. The oil was checked when hot and running. The tires are just plain wrong for the car. I’m leaning towards removing the a/c. I don’t know how much I want to spend on marginal a/c. The weight loss doesn’t hurt my feelings either. I do have enough R12 to charge it though. I think I need to decide before I get it corner balanced and aligned. It shifts really well below 3000 rpms. It shifts ok up to 4500 rpms with pause and or throttle blip.I can just shift it quicker below 3000 rpms. I’m hoping this will improve with the Wevo shifter (I think I see one in my future for Christmas), shift coupler (Ivangene I’ll pm you), and misc. springs. If not I can live with this for a season or two. The suspension is what’s in the budget for this winters improvement. I’ll be using Sanders hollow bars 22/29, Smart Racing anti-roll bars, turbo tie rods, revalved shocks by Steve Weiner (the suspension is his recommendation. Really a great guy to talk to), and quite the assortment of Elephant Racing products. Next winter will either be the trans or exhaust and chip. I’m getting the car ready for a 3.4/3.5 engine build in 5 years.
