Default Clutch

I'm new to this forum, and I have a question. Or should I say problem. I recently bought a porsche 911. The other day out of the blue the pedal went to the floor and won't come back up. Now I can pull it up and it stays. But when you go to press it instantly it hits the floor. Some one told me that if I ran the brake fluid low that it could have caused air in the line and that's why it's doing it. Well I checked the brake guild, it was defenately low. But the hydraulic fluid was still full. Please I need help. Thanks

Cable snapped. Oh...wait, you say it's a 99? That would be a water cooled "911" or 996. This forum is for the old air cooled cars. You may want to repost your question in the 996 forum under the water cooled menu at the left.

If it helps; you do have a clutch hydraulic problem. Air does not magically appear in the fluid line under normal circumstances and the fluid level should not decrease to the level that so much air enters the line. You have a fluid leak, most likely in the form of a clutch slave cylinder, or master cylinder failure. There are less common and much more involved problems that would cause this, but you very well find a fluid deposit on the driveway or underside of your transmission (center rearward of the car) where the slave cylinder is found. OR, you may find brake fluid on the inside of the foot well behind the clutch pedal itself (master cylinder).
Adding brake fluid probably won't help, or if it does at all, the problem will return quickly.
If you get it to your shop, and this is infact the problem, they will probably charge you for a master/slave cylinder or both. Also a good shop will do a complete brake system flush and bleed at the same time. They should do a complete system flush, if they don't, you should request it.
If memory serves me well, your master cylinder is located in the trunk area on the drivers side of the battery...you will have to remove the plastic covers beneath the windshield on the sides of the battery.
Hope this helps, but the guys in the 996 forum may offer better, or clearer, advice.

O people can be a bit cruel just because they own one does not mean they know what it is.
I have shown this forum to several of my friends with 996's, 7's or 991's and when asked to go into there forum all pick this one
911 Forum because they bought a Porsche 911.......................... give them a chance to learn

It's all in good fun. If there is help to be had here, you will find it. However, getting the best answer may require one to jump around the different forums a bit.
So, what forum DO your 991 buddies end up in?
