Question 944 and 911 mirrors?

Can you swap 944 mirrors and 911 mirrors? I have a "wobbly" mirror on my 81' SC. Seen mirrors on ebay and everyone seems to say they are interchangeable. Isn't the base of the mirror different? More curve?
Help,

Troy <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

I've always heard that you could, but don't know for sure. FWIW, My brother has an '88 911 cab. and I was looking at his mirrors on it yesterday and they look exactly like mine!

I believe the flag style mirrors are the same. However, I have no idea about the aero mirrors.

All the mirror housings are the same for all models, the bases are different for 911's and 944's (968 & 928 are the same as 944's). If your base is no good you need one for the correct car door its going on, if you just need parts of the rest of the unit you can interchange between models

If your mirror is wobbly, tthat can be fixed. Perfoemace Products had a special kit, but I just took it to my wrench who charged me ~$40.

That confirmed what I had thought. Thank you guys. I'll take a look at Performance Products to see if they have the kit.

my 928 mirror was wobbly (if you are talking about the mirror housing to the base/shaft. Take the mirror off and you'll see a spring loaded hollow bolt up there that comes loose over time. Takes a special tool...(which you can get at sears) and tighten it up!

Yo Troy, I drive a '96 993. I drive the 101 corridor on a regular basis--though not in the P-car. I commute from Aptos to King City so I get to see a lot of the Salinas valley (too damn much!).
Cheers,
Chris

Chris, Terrible drive. Far to many field workers driving 30 mph on 101 for me. Need a soap box if I keep talking about that. I work out of Santa Cruz county. Not so bad.
Gonna pull the mirror off again and see if I can tighten up that bolt.

Troy
