Default Alternatives to 245 45R16?

I apologize if this topic has been beaten to death already. I had a left rear tire blowout on my SC a few days ago. I want to replace all four tires with a summer ultra performance tire and hope to make a decision soon.

Presently it has 205 55R16 on the front and 245 45R16 on the rear. A relative manages a Goodyear stores, and as I expected, he is having trouble finding rear tires in that size.

Prior to the blowout, I was pleased with how the car was handling on those tires. Would switching to a 55 series rear alter the handling dynamics very much? Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?

I think the horse is dead, been trying to get advice on rear tires on this and pelican and no response
see post nov. 5 "stock 84 930 /7 & 8 x 16s - best tire size for rear"

being a 79, if stock wheels you have 8" rears, 245 55s will be quite tall effectively reducing acceleration and speedo will read low, cant advise you on handeling which is what I have been trying to find out about myself (8" x 16s)(?? 225 x 50s or 245 x 45s)

good luck

Depends on wheel size. If stock, then 225 is the way to go. 245s are much more limited. Fuzions are the way to go for street 245s.
