All I can tell you, you probably already know. It is a special order color, code 655. It looks like a one year only color, but that doesn't mean it wasn't called something else and/or used a couple of years before or after. I don't think "color rarity" has any dollar value - unless a potential buyer just happens to love it.

Thanks Brad, great site but I found nothing!.
The color code is L655 ,I just wondered how many in that color were delivered to the US in 84..it was supposed to be a custom color and the original owner did a european delivery, I have all the original documents and invoices as well as full service history...54K miles!.
rather than get frustrated maybe I should go for a drive!

that is a cool link.
On occasion you will find a Paint-to-sample car that was special ordered from the factory where the buyer provided a sample. These cars do have a rarity to them and may command a premium depending on the color.
There is a specific paint-to sample color code. If it is a PTS car it will have such a code regardless of color.

L655 is an 1981 code for platinum mettalic. Somebody may have specified this to the factory when ordering the car.

Here you go ...

I believe that color only came in 1983 and 1984 !
Don't mind the crooked scan

Cheers !

L655 is platinum metallic. I see L956 listed as pewter metallic on this site.

http://www.adelgigs.com/911colours.shtml

There are no production number breakdowns by color to the best of anyone's knowledge that I've seen anywhere. This is a common question, and I have not seen anyone have an answer.

thanks guys, on the original invoice it shows;
U1U1 pewter metallic ($581 option charge)
among the options. on the sticker under the hood it shows
Paint # L655 VT
with options:
C02,158,395,454,533,650,900
(all listed on the invoice)
maybe they wrote Pewter metallic by mistake?

LM8U/U1 is the correct number code for Platinum Metallic code 655 ... Pewter Metallic is 956/U3
Your car looks more like Platinum.

Anyhow,it's just a color, cosmetics ... enjoy the car and drive the thing !!!

Cheers !
Phil
