Beware of virus coming from Richard Glickel

Fellow listers, I was quite disgusted to find 4 emails from a Richard Glickel which each contained a virus. They where sent on Wednesday and Thursday and all came from email address: rglickel@optonline.net. All titled "nysba report". Needless to say, I just sent them back to the sender.
What kind of behavior is this? I'm really disappointed that the "list" is being used for such nonsense. The sender should really consider seeking professional help.

JPA:
There are a number of recent viruses that, without any knowledge of the owner, are arbitrarily transmitted to people in the owner's address book. This can happen without the owner ever knowing they are infected.
If you and Richard ever emailed each other, it is possible you are the recipient of email never intended by him.

JBH,I can only go by the senders email address. That's all the info I could obtain from the email. If this is the case, then Richard Glickel is not at fault at all. I wouldn't expect this kind of behavior from people of the list, I'd like to believe they're above that.
Thanks for your reply.

I have gotten quite a few recently from folks who are on the email lists, and as JBH points out, it was without their knowledge. Today, these virus's typically go into your Microsoft Outlook/email and propogate themselves to everyone in your address book. If you want to find out more the Symantec web site has all you might want to know on virus's at www.symantec.com.
Rule number one, never open an unexpected file from someone you don't know, or aren't expecting anything from. Sometimes they have a funky filename that may not look right.
I suspect you'd find that Richard is just as surprised as you were....

I also received the email from Richard Glickel, but have received numerous ones of the same sort and have never opened them.
I have never had any corespondence with Glickel, so why would he have my email address?
I'm all for giving someone the benefit of the doubt, but I'm leery in this case.

Mark: Richard probably doesn't have your email address, but some site you've both been to does. I'm at a university and ever since the students returned I get emails with attached viruses every day, simply because I've been to some of the same sites within the university website that they have. It's great to get so many requests for my advice, but I never open the attachments.

MarkY,
Why don't you try engaging your brain before publishing your completely unfounded accusations?
I don't know you and from your post you can't possibly know me, but let's think this through. Assuming I wanted to send you a virus, the object being (I presume) to wreck your computer, or at least make you miserable for a while, do you think I'm going to identify myself to you (or anyone else) as the culprit what done the dastardly deed?
Can you imagine that by receiving the "SirCam" virus, I am kind of an innocent victim here? I read all of the warnings posted on Optimum on Line, and I'm certain that I didn't open any email attachments from any strangers, yet my computer still got this virus. My antivirus program didn't work and within less than 4 hours of my learning of this virus in my computer, the computer was cleansed and the antivirus software updated (2002).
Come to think of it, I have no idea why I am even explaining this to you, except that some very nice, intelligent, people who I don't even know, have gone to bat for me and I suppose I should stick up for myself here (although I did post an explanation on this board yesterday).
You may recall that the subject of my infected email was the NYSBA's report on uncivil conduct in depositions. "NYSBA" stands for New York State Bar Association, of which I am a member. That was the last website I had downloaded information from on wednesday night before I left the office. Oh yes, I'm an attorney, a trial lawyer to be precise; have been for nearly 27 years. You see, I needed the report to include in the materials for a continuing legal education seminar on professional ethics that I am presenting next monday evening on behalf of the local bar association where I chair the committee on professional ethics.
Now, why exactly is it that you are "leery in this case". Be careful here, because I'm sure you wouldn't want to make any more defammatory remarks about this "Glickel" guy. Maybe you should write to the webmaster to see what you can do about deleting your libelous post, or at least retract your asinine comment.

You interperet leary as libelous. Come on Richard. Im leary of Bill Clinton, Gary Condit, and some others but that doesn't make me libelous. But I am sorry you have taken so much grief over this realizing it was not your fault.

So Glickel is a trial lawyer, member of the NYSBA and has 27 years trial experience. Wow!
Very impresive. "Libelous post", threatening to sue, Glick? Major overreaction to Mark Y's
post.
Simple man.

Well Kluncker, your insightful and thought provoking post is real evidence of your obvious genius.
You know, I'll bet the geek that unleashed the "Sir Cam" virus is a genius too.
BTW, you wouldn't happen to be into computers?
