Default Fender Flaring

I was considering flaring the rear to complete the "turbo look". Previous owner installed the T-Tail and Chin Spoiler, so I might just finish the job. What is the correct flare, I hopped on Pelican and saw an 11". Who has done this conversion? I have a great body shop, to do the work.

Front flares would be needed too. It involves hacking up the current rear bodywork to do it. Steel flares are preferred over glass. Better to buy a 930 and have the real deal, IMO.

I think you have 2 real options realistically.. selling your car and getting a 930 , or picking up a turbo look. I think hacking up your original car will actually diminish its value in most cases.

Why not just put a nice duck or Carrera tail on yours ? would look much better balanced that way IMO

all the best

I cannot offer any advice. I will say, however, the first thing that jumped out at me when you put the picture of theTarga in your sig file was how beautiful that right rear quarter is. Maybe option 3 could be a rough Carrera RSR project car.

I agree with the previous posts. You've got a beautiful car. I think I would change the tail and not molest the rear quarters.

I agree w/ you all. Been offline due to storm and thought about it in the interim. Not worth the rear work, new rear wheels and tires, the front, etc, etc. Also, it could greatly devalue the car. The Turbo Tail was installed by the previous owner and while I like it, I know it's not the proper tail on a narrow body. I might simply change it for a Carrera tail. Thanks for the compliments as well.

That is a beautiful targa! I agree with the others. Replace the turbo tail with a duck (IMO) and call her done!

Although I like the duck, I am all about the larger tails. They feed my boyhood passion of these cars. How much more is a Turbo tail worth than a Carrera tail on the street? I am thinking of swaping w/ some people I have lined up already. Still on the fence though, I do also like the T-Tail

I think that is crazy, but who knows?

A Carrera OE tail is maybe in the $1000 range.

Thanks Ed, I see that on the market for the Carrera and more $1,500ish for the Turbo. Make sense?

First off, great looking Targa.

I am going thru a refresh of an 87 Targa. I would find the original Carrera rear spoiler. I think the Turbo spoiler would be more rare and thus worth a bit more, and flip the one you have. I just took off a 993RS steering wheel and put a more period correct Momo on and put some cash in my pocket. Probably the last time that will happen as I mentioned to my wife.

I am big fan of trying to restore these cars back to an original exterior condition, but improve them where we can not see.

Looks like you have a 997 too. Thursdays and Fridays are for the 997 for me.

Thanks Mike, I am still on the fence about the tail swap, because I still do like how the T-Tail looks.
I keep the Targa @ a vacation home and the 997 and home base. This way I am never "Porscheless"

Although it's hard to see in the picture, the guy who did my Mustang did an awesome job on the rear fenders. You can see it better on the cover of the Sept 2006 issue of Classic Motorsport.
My mechanic (Seinfled's ), said I am better off getting one already installed on a deck lid, so if I do it, that will be the way.
