Has any one heard anything about a return of the Targa in the 1980's 911/964 format?

over styled crap with a 911 badge stuck on it .. they have been doing it since 1990
Weight is down on the 991 and power is up. That's the right direction to go. There are now boring sedans and heavy SUV's in Porsche's line up that may allow Porsche to produce a more sporting 911 for the people that want a true sports car, not a "GT" type 911 that has to appeal to a wide audience.
Porsche has tossed the bean counter subjected M96 motor design for a more robust design that might actually hold up for decades, not a decade. You can buy a stripped down two seat sports car that is darn near telepathic in how it feels to the driver. Porsche is owned by a larger company that now allows Porsche to get around some of the corporate fuel economy standards (mixing Golf mpg's with 911 mpg's helps). Check out the history of the top dog at VW and see his involvement with the 911 over the years... That's a good guy to have at the top and I bet he understands what makes a 911 a 911.
My point is that things are looking up for Porsche. Considering all the standards (safety, fuel economy, performance) that a new sports car has to meet, we're lucky Porsche is producing a 911 and it's probably as good looking as they can make it. Give it a chance. Sit in it. Drive it. For hours, not just a test drive around the block. Put one in your garage (next to your air cooled 911) and stare at it awhile before passing judgement...
I too used to dismiss the water cooled cars as "junk". Then I owned a few and realized that these cars too are still 100% Porsche. Porsche HAS to evolve to stay around and produce parts for our old cars...

I am of course a much bigger fan of the older 911s, but this is the best looking modern version I've yet seen. It's sexy in a modern sports car way, just not at all in the beautifully classic way that our air-cooled 911s are.

Porsche will no doubt make a faster, lighter, more fuel efficient and greener car w/ the 991 but the longer wheelbase (to add rear leg room) and the luxury SUV like interior styling (Panamera's styling is a big success) worries me that they may move away from a sports car to a more GT like car.
