Default Mouse Help

I have had a little smell in the old '85 for a while now and I finally found the mouse dead in front trunk. I am still getting a smell however so I am thinking there is a nest some where in the car. I have done the quick going over in the trunk and in the engine, so my fear is it is deeper. Thoughts and suggestions on where and how to look?

I had one in my old truck...looked for a LONG time then one day found it inside the wiper motor area (fairly well protected and hard to access)

tore it all out, cleaned it and the smell instantly went away.
if it smells there is still stuff "somewhere" - keep lookin'

Ive seen pics of nests under the engine shroud, heater ducts (by the door sills).... all was discovered by re-builds..... crazy.

Yes, the car has been driven regularly. I turned on the blower today and that didn't change the smell or at least make it worse. Thanks all! I will report back.

With a flashlight check the gap between the back of the fuel tank and the trunk floor (in front of the smuggler's box). Check the smuggler's box also. Look for chewed wires.

Yes. Also, your nose is your friend here. You won't die of the smell, but you need to chase it down. Set up in a darker area, and shine around with the flashlight into the crevices. Look for nesting materials. Usually, if you find that, your little dead pal will not be far behind. A special nozzle on a shop vac may be helpful at this point, as well as compressed air. Suck out the area, and then see if you can blow out the remainder. A little spray bottle with 10% bleach or so is the follow up, but don't spray near the fusebox or wire connections.

Your nose may get stale after a few minutes. Walk away and come back after ten or so. Eventually you will narrow it down to one area. Remember, there are connections between the cockpit and the trunk, so don't neglect one area because you have the smell in the other. it will travel, but it will be strongest as you hit the jackpot.

Oh yeah. Gloves and a dust mask for cleanup, especially if you are using compressed air.

I used compressed air. Shot around areas I couldn't see into very well. You'll know when you've hit the nest due to the cr** that starts flying out.

I found a nest under the rear speaker deck. The clue was that the seat belt was chewed where it entered the retractor.
