Default Sources for parts?

Hope I don't exhaust my newbie question quota...

What are the best sources for used parts? I am talking about the random odds and ends that people look for to complete a project, or replace something that is worn or broken (in my case, on an '88).

There are classifieds on this site and some others, and there are swap meets such as Hershey, but if someone is looking for a specific part, what are the options?

thanks - Mark

Evilbay if you're doing the needle in a haystack. Call around the wrecker adverts in Excellence otherwise. I've had good luck with Pelican classifieds, and 20th Street Auto in Az.

I'll give a plug for dC Automotive for used parts. They are located here in NC and I've been out to his place when he had an Open House last year. He's got a huge warehouse with the cars stored inside and racks upon racks of parts.

I've only bought a few small things from him, but when I did, their service was good.

During his open house, he invited our local PCA club out, let us wander around, had a Carrera GT in pieces for show and tell, then treated us all to a nice luncheon at a local restaurant.

FWIW, for new parts, I'm also a big fan of Pelican Parts.

One way to zero in on used parts is to search PCA regional sites. Each region has a web site. Each web site has a for sale / classified section. Start by finding Porsche Club of America site where you will find a listing of all regional clubs. Takes some doing, but you will be surprised at the number of interesting items for sale or trade.

For new parts, Pelican-Parts.com has an excellent website, and you can even order overseas parts with ease. Nearly everything down to the smallest o-ring can be found there.

hey Wayne, I love Pelican Parts' catalogue. It's easy to navigate, easy to determine the correct part, easy to determine price, and like I mentioned I can even order overseas parts.

Kudos for making such a good product.

Oh, and the tech articles, forums, and classifieds make the experience even more enjoyable and beneficial

For needles in the haystack a WTB on Pelican has been my best resort (there were a couple tiny things I couldn't bring myself to buy new lately but a WTB got me good used ones for 1/10th new price). New parts are almost always through them as well, great cust. service, great selection, price almost always within a buck or so of anywhere else.

I've also had some amazing finds doing and advanced google search using Craigslist, looking nationally. One trick is to intentionally mis-spell Porsche (Porsh, Porche, Porshe).

It never occured to me that someone might ask where to find new parts. I assumed they were the impossible to find (i.e. NLA) variety. My gosh, the rational choices for new parts are so few, it hardly seemed thread-worthy.

Have found that so far that there is not a site that has 100% of everything so I look at a various sites. Some include Pelican (used parts and new) as well as Stoddards and Auto Atlanta.

Pretty much any place that has an online catalogue for new parts works well.
