I was just at the Seine site thinking about the top part and read this:

"In addition, the Gate Shift Kit provides "gates" on the top carrier plate for 1st and 2nd gears to mirror the existing gates for 5th and Reverse. These "gates" relieve spring tension (while in gear ) on the shift mechanism inside the gearbox housing. This is a feature other (and more expensive) kits don't address."

that's what I thought.... nothing more

All I can say is that you should drive one, and you'll see what I mean. They "gate" the 1-2 plane, forcing you to follow the H pattern. IMO, this is the true Failsafe aspect of the shifter. A silly piece of formed metal added to what you've done could save $10k in the long run.

slowly making progress....

I milled this out of 304 SS, made a nice little bending fixture so if I make more they will be the same. Now to install and work on the shift arm tab and weld that on.

Just an update on my little project, it is turning out pretty nice AND works wonderful. I cannot imagine NOT having it now

Oh man, its a must have, works perfect and removes the guessing which plane you are in. I have had it in for a while (see thread date) and love it. This is the 3rd one I buuilt, 2 others in race cars. The new part is a continuation of the mod. I will make this for my other devices. If I get off my *** I can make you one or seine has the same type of system in a production quality unit for $150

LOL @ orders... I have to say the seine is much more geared towards marketing and profit. Mine is machined which is slow esp in 304SS

I think I can make the spring part in around 10 minutes and the SS part in about 15+
the hardware is all off the shelf with exception of the large screw (plunger) which gets trimmed to length - I think anodizing the aluminuim would help make it smooth as I was concerned about it hanging up, but so far that has not been a problem. the long pin is pre-ground so I cut to length and put in two notches for the clips...easy, re-use factory clips

At this point I am thinking there must be a way to do this all internal (nothing bolted to the side) and that would actually be cool because then you could put the boot and console back together. I like the solving of the problem more than the making of 100's of parts (which is why I guess I have been in R&D for the last 15 years) in the end when it all works you can always see the way it should have been done...then either contiue or say.."that was cool" - NEXT !

Ed... get off your *** and make me one.

BTW, that clip needs to be welded on the shaft or a a hose clamp will do?

Hose clamp won't work....for long...at least with the original sold by Seine, which are great units and pretty inexpensive. I wished I'd bought one sooner.

Ed, I think for you to pursue this any further, your idea on refinement and development to make it all "internal" is the one that makes the most sense, other than playing around with the design for your own use.

I knew that. Back when I had the run of a full job shop metal fabricator in the late '70's-early 80's, I made a ton of stuff.
