Default Price Check on Aisle 3!

Friend of mine is looking for a 3.2 Carrera. Gave me his list of wants: low miles, 'different' color than red or black, no crash damage, good history etc.

The more we spoke, the more we realized he was sort of describing my car. I've toyed with the idea of moving toward a different model. Just wanted to get some input from the experts on pricing it. Here you go - -

1986 Targa, 42k miles, 2-owners, records from day one including window sticker. Meteor gray with gray, full power both sides, 16" wheels, new Bridgestones, no paint work. Factory front spoiler.

I just had a full motor out service done. Valve set, o rings galore, gaskets, 'reseal' underneath, new oil lines, etc. I did the full engine detail while it was out, new sound pad.

Car is bone stock, runs absolutely flawlessly. New brakes all around, ac is ice cold, inside is spotless. Leather is absolutely pristine. All books, tools, inflator, even tire changing gloves. Nice, nice car.

What say you on value? Any input is helpful.

My armchair swag is $22k - $25k

I say this because I see a lot of beat 911s with no history selling for $16k - $18k

Your car appears to be very nice and well documented.

Thanks Scott. Everyone must agree with you! Seems about right here. I see some dealers in the $30's on these cars, always wonder if they ever get it. Thanks again.

I wouldn't sell a well sorted car like yours. It's so hard to get these cars in great shape like yours. Keep it. My 2 cents.

You cannot believe the amount of high-level waffling I've done on this subject. I'll have a thought like yours, then look at 993s, then maybe a M3 just to confuse me, then back to the 911. I'm basically out of room in the garage, so I can't really 'add' a car without some difficulty. A dilemma.

Thanks for your input.

given the chance, if you have had it for a while.... make the change - but for goodness sake's dont get an M3 - and it's NOT because they are bad cars, hell they may be one of the best cars out there....but they are not a Porsche and you will most likely be wondering WTF you were thinking

How much is it worth for you to kick yourself in the pants thinking - I never should have sold that car 20 years from now.

That is every bit a $25K 911, maybe more.

They literally don't make them like that anymore.

Go ahead. Sell it and fall to my level; become a serial collector. My (your?) collection is limited only by the size of my garage that has one extra space. I have had an E 46 M3, Ferrari, Alfa, three Jags, and four P-cars, not counting 3 race cars and their tow vehicles and trailers. Am I fickle? You bet your sweet bippy. Is it more fun than having multiple wives? I don't know, but it is certainly cheaper.

Our 911 SC has been driven very little in the past 2 years. It is not the best example but a decent driver. We are in cheap and no immediate repairs suspected. It is too nice to leave outside of the garage, so it takes up space. We can sell it and actually make a small profit and if the economy continues to tank maybe buy a Carrera for cheap. But, we do have it sorted out to meet our needs and it is paid for.

If we sell it we regain garage space and have some mad money. However, the sale of my 1966 911, the early 356 bent window, the xk120, 140. and E still haunt me and I literally have dreams of refinding them stored in a forgotten place.

Do what you will, but it may come back to haunt you, as it has me.

A haunting tale for sure. Great input folks. I still dream of finding my E type, 246 Dino, and Healey in a semi-forgotten estate, all potentially for sale but nobody can find out for sure.

In honor of this thread, went and got the old gal tonight, drove it around, brought it home tonight. Runs even better than I remember. I've had so many second thoughts they're having each other.

I can tell you my dad had a really nice 72 911E that he sold and to this day he said he wished he never had sold it - some 25 year later.

Every time I see him he says don't sell your car, you will regret it. You will think you will get another one again, but you never do. Or you get a car that just isn't as nice, which is what he did and then sold that one too.
