Default New E-Brake Shoes too tight

So I just bought new e brake shoes and rear rotors for my 89 Carrera. Took everything apart and am reinstalling. I've backed off (i.e. made as small as possible) the adjustment nut completely and loosened the e-brake cable as much as possible but still can't get the rotors on. What might I be doing wrong? Did I reinstall the adjustment nut upside down? Do the shoes need to be ground down a bit?

I did have a large clearance even with new shoes. No grinding was needed. Are you sure that the adjustment screw is set properly?

First - DO NOT grind shoes... brake material is very bad for you.

You didn't say if you installed new discs as well. If not check to see if there is a small rust lip at the edge of the e-brake drum. This could be just enough to not allow new shoes in. That you can grind off - its metal or rust - not as bad as brake shoe material

If you did one side at a time double check with the side you did not take apart - see if everything looks in place

good luck - check back with a pic if that doesn't help and some one here should be able to pick up on something

Default Here are some poor photos

Thought these photos may help. I wouldn't grind the friction material, just the metal shoe bracket.

The bottom shoe could be on wrong. I might have a picture at the office. Also, you need to get the correct axle nut on there with cotter safety pin.

I thought I had some pics somewhere. These are not mine. I have them on the external HD for reference.

Make sure the other end of the cable, at the handle end, didn't pop out of it's location.

Also, the parking brake cable should be firmly seated in the firewall tube. If it came out, then the brakes will be very tight. You may need to tap it back in with a long handle screwdriver.
