Vertex Fan/alternator housing
#16
I bought mine on ebay from vertex. It was listed around 600, but there was an option to offer your "best bid". I threw out a number that I was willing to pay for a non-OEM housing, and my offer was accepted. I won't say exactly how much I paid, but it was quite a bit less than 600.

A couple of years ago my fan on an 85 911 coupe "grenaded" and took out part of the housing. I bought a fan and housing from Vertex. With about ten minutes with a flat file I cleaned up some of the casting marks and the rest of the installation went pretty clean. The pros ... new parts, the cons ... the aluminum was a little heavier than the magnesium. Over all I was pretty happy with the result. I have since sold the car. My experince was a good one.
Just my $0.02 ...

I have heard the same thing that they all need a little dressing before going in . My concern would be that the mark on the housing is used to time the engine is it not ? I would think that part has to be dead on accurate.

From the comments, it sounds like they changed the mold if they removed the "Vertex" lettering. Maybe they improved the accuracy, I don't know.
I would probably be a little bit hesitant if I was looking at a used Porsche that says "Vertex" on any part of the engine. I bought a used 930 fan shroud a few years ago for around $450 from a guy in Arizona. So far, it's still perfect with no cracks anywhere.
