This 1 hour show has been shown about four times in the last couple months and holds great interest for any porsche owner or fan. One sequence (as related by my wife and friends) is a "certification" of a RUF vehicle on the autobahn at 212mph. My new dream in life is to drive this fantastic roadway in a P-car. My previous goal was to own a 3.2 911, now done and I'm a member of the porsche for the rest of my life club. The show is scheduled for 9PM 12/29 Sunday and 1 AM 12/30 PST. Thanks,I'll watch It. I almost bought an 84 Cab once from the original owner that had picked up the car in Germany and took it for a spin on the Autobahn before shipping home to Ca.
A nice run around Maui sounds like a dream come true too.
Cheers and Merry Christmas from California

I was in Germany last year for the first time in a rented 996. High speed driving was very fun, but the lasting memory that I have is one of frustration upon returning to USA. The Germans are such better (and faster) drivers that respect the left (fast) lane. The US has unskilled, slow, and undisciplined drivers that make owning a nice car very frustrating at times. I wake up at 6AM every weekend to drive in the mountains west of Denver to drive some great roads before the morons wake up and block my route. Wish it wasn't necessary. Wish we had unlimited speed interstates, but more importantly, i wish Americans could use them reasonably, responsibly, and competently

Driving the Autobahn sounds like a good goal. My experience there is that traffic can be pretty bad, thereby limiting speeds drastically. Munich area can have lots of traffic. My $0.02 is to plan the wheres and whens to minimize traffic, lest your dream disappoint you.

Eric, You are right about Munich, we left on a Fri. afternoon in the middle of Octoberfest 1998 heading for Austria and saw Autobahn at its worst. It took over an hour to get out of Munich area but the next day as cars passed us at speeds well over 200km all day you have to think this is a special place to drive! This year we leased a Twingo from Renault(modern version of the Fiat 500) and drove thru the south of France, Tuscany, Switzerland and up to Paris. Over 2700 km in a glorified go kart. I even got to draft and dice it with a silver GT3 and his 3 buddies, 2 in matching ferarris and the slow guy in a 993TT at the swiss border(traffic was only going 40-50mph so I was hanging in there with them). After they passed us they pulled into a rest area so I got to check out their cars close up, I was very envious of those young swiss gentlemen. We saw no serious accidents the whole time and no one pulled over by the police. I must admit most Americans would not be able to go with the flow in Europe. Eating, cellphones and smoking while driving in Germany will net you a ticket! Attentive but aggressive/fast driving is normal in Europe. Mark

I’ve seen the program and it’s awesome. Growing up in Germany I’ve had the privilege of driving many times on the Autobahn. I can honestly say, "I've been there and done that".
All of you are correct in experiences and assumptions (Driving in the U.S., traffic in Germany, etc.). The “Left Lane” deal is the single most important aspect of driving in Germany. Not only does this allow cars to run fast it reduces the risks of accidents. There is no passing on the right due to this law. So this keeps cars from changing lanes radically across all lanes.
The best track (stretch of autobahn) without traffic is between Bremen and Bremen Harbor (Autobahn 27) at almost anytime of the day. Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc. use this stretch daily to do test drives and show off cars.
Now that I've let this cat out of the bag I don't know how long it will stay this way.

I guess in would be good for everyone to double check the showing times. The history channel's web site showed two times for showing. I'm going to put it on DVD to have it to watch whenever. I'm excited because in the past I have only got to see parts of the whole show. I am also keeping my eye on the history channels listings for the Porsche show that is an hour long also. The Volkswagen show was interesting also and had some old footage with Ferdinand and VW beginnings. The weather is great today so I will exercise the 3.2 on the road up to Haleakala's summit-10,023ft. It really likes this run. Mark

Great tip!!! I just finished the EST time zone show. The opening segment was the most inspiring at 212 MPH... WOW! I had to take dirve in my Porsche as soon as it was over... a little under the 212. Now if we can just get American drivers to abide by the "DRIVE RIGHT" rule (left is for passing), we would all enjoy the road a little more!!!
