Sold an STi, Looking for a 911

Had a madzaspeed6 w/ 300hp. Awd. A great ride and somewhat comparable with a wrx.
"Porsche killer" is a pretty broad term and one that only brings a little smirk to my already beaming demeanor whilst driving my 996 TT. Truth is, the killing is now up to me, if I'm in the mood to smoke the clutch and burn some rubber or just watch that boxy ricerer blow past me.

IMHO, the Speed 6 was a lot more car than a WRX/STI. Yes heavier, not as fast, but a lot nicer car to drive.

I don't think so either.
However, you really have to know what you are getting yourself into when getting any Porsche.
Ya can't go in with the same mentality as you would say a WRX/STI and expect a happy outcome.

The ongoing comparison is futile in my mind. I would not discourage anyone from a Porsche as long as they can make the commitment a 911 requires. It's different than a hopped up grocery-getting subcompact.
The various vintages of aircooled 911s all have a certain "je nais se qua".

I bought a 2002 WRX new and it has been my daily driver. It has held up well and does not look trashed - simply because I take care of my stuff. It does not have the build quality of a Porsche, but it is OK for what it is. Fun car with a great aftermarket and it really is a good DD up here in Canada. It is quick and neat enough, but also great in the winter and not so dear that I worry about it in bad weather.
Love the 911, but as has been said, it is just a different car.
A lot of cars will beat a lot of Porsches these days and an STI will surpass a stock SC/Carrera in many ways. But that is only to be expected given the age difference.

Take it from a guy who has both:
They are such different animals that it is difficult to make comparisons. Some of you use the term "ricer" and "cheap" and say that the Subaru is targeted to a different market. So what if it is. I am 64 years old and I recognize value. This WRX is one of the best bangs for the buck on the market today. For me it combines utility and sporting driving that few cars can offer. My 1989 930 is totally unmolested and cannot even come close to the WRX in straight line acceleration or handling in the curvies, but there is still a huge difference. My heart doesn't quicken when I walk into the garage and look at the WRX but I nearly have a heart attack every time I see my 930. What is that worth? They are just different and trying to compare driving statistics is futile. Anybody want to race my WRX both straight line and in the curvies, come on. I will win but you will have more fun.

Well, it looks "cute", not that there is anything wrong with that. In the bay area, Subie Outbacks are favored by lesbians. So much so that they call em lezbarus. I'm not making that up.
