STi - WRX are kind of a dime a dozen, and I don't know how anyone can drive one. They are fast, but they are also cheap inside, the seats are horrible, sounds like your kid trying to making car noises.
By time the get anywhere near classic age they are going to be all used up. I have seen many sub 100k 5 year old STi - WRX that have absolutely had the snot beat out them - bodies trashed, looks like 2 kids and dog has been living inside ... but it has $5000 dollars in mods on it.
Completely different worlds, different cultures, and creatures.

We're actually comparing a Suby WRX to a 911? I have to agree, completely different cars, different design objectives. Newish WRXs are fun cars, and I have nothing against them. WOT sounds like Junior making vroom vroom noises through a straw into a glass of milk though. Performance, as noted, is respectable but the car is pushing it's guts out like a 16-valve Toyota Tercel. You suspect the cloud of exhaust gasses from the tailpipe might be ferrous.

So many "tractors" from the motronic/csi years...a 911 is not one of them - Inanely flexible motors that responds well to exhaust mods. I don't see a comparison, numbers mean nothing when it comes to a 911, and mean everything to a ricer.
+1000 to all above advice and make sure a 911 is what you want.

Actual weight of a stock STi is around 3300 lbs. So the max power/weight ratios are closer than you'd think.
Turbo charged 300 HP 290 torques 2500# AWD STI
NA 214 HP 195 torques 2800# rear engine rear wheel drive Carrera
Huge differences in performance. However, just sitting in a Porsche will be many times better than the plastic-ee cheap feeling STI, and yeah it doesn't sound like a tractor.

It is actaul a little more than 14 pounds per horse power vs 11 pounds per horse power.

You know of course that there are 911s that also make 11 lbs per hp.
And not to be nit picky, but that ratio is pounds per hp, not power to weight.

This is true. The STi needs to loose some ##'s. The new 2011 feels much lighter due to the fact that the understeer is much less than what it was.
911's are great cars. Love them and I am a huge Porsche nut. BUT we are talking about a 1983 911SC as compared to a 2011 STi. The STi is much more advanced and better daily driver car. Also the STi would eat a 1983 SC on any track. 0-60 or lap time. They really are nice cars and sound great with the SPT exhaust to boot.
P.S. Let us not become haters of other brands just because of our love for Porsche but rather rejoice in the fact that other car companies are making sport cars for us to compete against.
