1974 Porsche 911 Targa - Mint condition - $32000 (Chino Hills)
When She Said, “Sell the Porsche,” I Almost Wept.
Hi, my name is Gary Wills, and there is nothing I’d rather be doing right now then writing this ad about my 1974 Porsche 911 Targa. You see, I’m a Porsche enthusiast, having owned over 100 Porsches in my lifetime – and this classic Porsche 911 in mind-bending orange is my absolute favorite of all of them. Yes, I have three grown kids now, but this is my baby. I treasure it so much that I only drive it once a year when we drive up to Oregon State University, my alma mater, for the big football game. I love the feeling of stares from all the other fans as I drive up. And then there is the mix of high fives and jealous stares from my former classmates when I get out. “Wow, Gary, you’ve really made it,” one says in true admiration. “I should show you my Porsche sometime, Gary,” another says. But I can see it in his eyes that he wishes this were his Porsche. The fact is that this one hot car and it doesn’t hurt that Oregon State University colors are orange too, so it’s as if it were made for the occasion.
Now, I certainly could drive it more. It only has 35,000 miles on it. But it’s that sweet taste of victory every year that keeps it garaged and anticipating Thanksgiving. Except for this one. My grandmother and mother both passed away recently and there have been a lot of unexpected funeral expenses. I’ve been turning this way and that trying to avoid having to sell my dream car, but yesterday my wife looked across from me at the dinner table and said, “Sell the Porsche.” Tears welled up in my eyes. I didn’t want to do it. I mean, there was nothing like this car. It had been upgraded with 3.2 liter engine, 996 mirrors and headlights. Then there are the 18 inch turbo twist wheels. Oh my. If you are rims nut like me, you know there is nothing like twisted spokes. It’s equivalent a pair of Gucci shoes. Of course, this is a driver’s car and when I make that drive up, it’s oh so comfy in a RECARO seat.
Dang it. I really wish I didn’t have to do it. Excuse me for being a bit of a trivia buff, but I know everything about the 911. Considered by many to be the best sports car of all time, the 911 came in 5th for the Car of the Century. Automobile magazine picked the Porsche 911 as one of the two coolest cars ever. GQ magazine picked the 911 as one of the most stylish cars of the last 50 years. The list goes on and on.
I really wish I could keep it. When I drive it, I feel one with the road. It handles better than anything I’ve ever driven. And of course, it doesn’t hurt, that people go gaga when I cruise by in it.
So here’s the deal. According to Kelley Blue Book, a 1974 Porsche 911 Targa in excellent condition like mine is worth $27,400. Then tack on the 3.2 liter and we’re up to $32,000. The 18 inch turbo twist wheels are another $2,000 and the RECARO seat adds $1,000, so we are up to a hefty $35,000. I’ve priced this car to sell, so you can walk away with it for $32,000.
Give me a ring at (909) 257-6877 to see it in person.
Best of luck,
Gary

What a salesman .... how much for a 74 targa with a toasted engine with pulled headstuds so he put in a 3.2 . Non factrory rims and turbo wing ( i personally think it looks out of place on that car) . he is a good story teller though ..

What a douchebag! I'm waiting to hear it is a Euro Carrera with a 3.0 or something. Then I learn it is a Frankenporsche that only gets drive once a year.
Yeah "Gary", you've arrived....to your coronation for being king of the nitwits.
Now, I of course will have to choke on those words if he sells it for $30k+.
Sheesh, I wish you could add up the receipts and pick your sell price.

Ice, I could write you a story:
"I have to sell, I'm divorcing my wife, I cannot live this life of deceipt any more, so I'm coming out of the cl......."
Not that there is anything wrong with that!

Very funny ad.
"But it’s that sweet taste of victory every year that keeps it garaged and anticipating Thanksgiving. " - Why is he anticipating Thanksgiving?
"having owned over 100 Porsches in my lifetime" - Probably scaled models
"this classic Porsche 911 in mind-bending orange" - The person who will pay $32k for this car is certainly mind-bended!
"I only drive it once a year" - Probably because the car wouldn't start 364 other days!
