congrats! you (probably) done good. I got my '87 2 years ago w/ about the same mileage. 20K later I am quite satisfied, despite minor issues that remain to be worked out (some related to the G50!).
Overall, I am convinced that the final years of the 3.2 Carrera represent the optimal balance of cost-effectiveness, simplicity / servicability and driving pleasure among the 911 range.

After 18 months of driving my 88 3.2 coupe I can only regret not buying a 911 earlier. If you enjoy driving and working/tinkering with sports cars you will quickly become very attached to this model. Sure a 993 and a host of other P-cars will always appeal to me but the 88 is in a niche of its own in the lineage of 911's.

Looks great! I've had my '89 for about a year and I'm a junkie now. I can't go for more than a week or so without a "fix" of flat-six music - this winter that's been difficult. Learn to drive the car well and discover its capabilities. The PCA drivers ed programs are terrific.

For optimum performace adjust the valves, gut the cat(not sure which state you call home), put in new plugs, cap, rotor and Magnecor wires. Replace O2 sensor and head temp. sensor. Make sure the air filter is new or clean and drill out the air box. Change the tranny oil and install new bushings in the shift linkage and it will shift like new. It should run so smooth that it feels like it can pull to 8000 rpm without breaking a sweat. All this can be done with minimum investment in tools and a good manual like Bentley's 1984-1989 Carrera.

Jeff,
DE is next on my calendar. Drove my '87 to work today. Boy it was great! I took it to almost 100 mph for a few sec but chicken out after that - don't want to get speeding ticket.
Bay Area Porsche Fellows,
If you see a '87 venetian blue with rear wing and no license plate on 680 that's probably me, a 911 newbie
Again, thank you for your feedback.

mschafer71,
thank you for your advices. '101 Porsche Projects' and 'Bentley Manual's 1984 - 1989' are on Amazon order. Could you tell me more about installing new bushings in the shift linkage? Is it something that appply to 87 carrera?
Thanks.

Pguy, Excellence magazine had the article on the G-50's two bushings replacement(there's only 2) in an issue last year. I'll send you a scanned copy, I think it's only three pages but helps restore the linkage's trueness after 70000 miles. The bushings are about $4.50 each. The other things I mentioned are good learning steps to see how the car is put together and how well it's built. I'm at work now and get the issue # and reprint to you on Sat. hopefully. Aloha Mark

PGuy,
I think that car used to belong to a guy on the 993 board, if it is the car, then you got yourself a GREAT car. He took care of it and the car was MINT. He only sold it to buy a 993.
Where did you buy the car from, because he sold it to a car dealer
