Ok ed and everyone else, thought you might have painted it on. By the way Ed I know you agree with me on the current GT3 as the best 911 to date, well had to pick one up in PA today and drive it back for a good client, was a 2007 used one I found for him with 8k miles, talk about razor handling! It's my next one for sure, ohh and the sound through the tunnels was glorious
I drove an 08 GT3RS with PCCB, only on the street-maybe 20 miles. The term "hand of God" has been used to describe Porsche race car brakes in the past. It truly described what I felt in that drive. I thought about that statement as I wiped my retina prints off the inside of the windshield.
The linear power band was awesome too, but those friggin' brakes.....
I think I like the looks of the standard body on the street, though. Make mine white or Speed yellow. On the track, the look and sound of the RSR makes my heart skip.
I had an rs 2011 out last week at 155. Pccb's on her as well. Very incredible car. That's my problem I'm in these cars ALL the time and mine feels so ancient. Lol.
Well, that is where Ruby does keep me happy. She is certainly not as powerful, but she doesn't seem ancient. But, then again, there are a lot of mods done to her which have kept her somewhat youthful. In fact when I drive her, I get a kick out of knowing that she's over 26 years old.
the serenity to accept the people I cannot change...
amen, brother!!!
I come from the opposite end of the spectrum. I grew up around old cars, and when I was in high school I drove a 356 B with a huge hole in the floor, and the cab top leaked. I didn't care. I drove it everywhere....to the coast...in the rain...you name it.
I then drove a 914-6 every day as a DD for two years, and I still have it but it's parked in the shed.
I bought a 911SC, and then an '84 Carrera. It's NEVER been about power. It's agility and feedback. It's about communicating with the car. I might be crazy, but I've never had dreams of racing my Porsche. I've always gotten a thrill from dancing the chassis on the head of a pin at 65 mph on switchback mountain roads, canyon runs, and the occasional suburban street in the middle of the night. I have gotten such a thrill from being sideways and bringing it back at 80 mph going to the coast, I never lust for more power. There was one time I spun around 360 degrees in the rain in the 914-6 because I was doing fishtails down Shaw Avenue, and one time it went too far. I clutched, spun the wheel in the opposite direction, gassed it and popped the clutch back out to keep the rear going around until I could straighten the wheel again. I guess I found my slice of heaven in my 911 and I don't realistically want another experience. To me, the newer Porsches are like Mercedes under a different name.
Not to knock Mercs...they are fine cars. But not for the head of a pin experience.
I've never had the impetus to race either, but I do love DE's and trackdays. It allows one to chase that pin head a little faster, and with no fear of red lights in the mirror.
PS- just got back from getting tech'd for a DE Saturday!
