Obviously you are interested in this particular car, if it presses your right buttons, is a price you are willing to pay, and you feel you can manage what it may throw at you...go for it!

IMHO these sort of decisions are as much about "gut instinct" and emotion as they are thorough homework. One does not (or should not) buy a 20+ year old sports car with the expectation that it will require the same maintenance as a 3 year old Civic. That you are checking into it with a PPI is probably as much forecasting as you can hope for.

I was like you, I lurked on here for years, poured over internet ads by the hundreds, I even talked on the phone with several that were possibilities here and there, but something always held me off. A few months ago I found an ad that just had everything about it the way I wanted. I hesitate to say I didn't get a PPI, but I did have a forum member involved locally. Mine (so far) has worked out very very well, but I often wonder how many do it all the right way as opposed to just jumping out there on hopes and dreams and see how it goes.

Point being, you have seen these threads before, you know the realities and the possible negative outcomes, but you have also seen the "this thing is flippin awesome and I keep looking at it in the garage" threads. You can keep finding reasons to pass cars over indefinately, but somebody will scoop up the one(s) you should have bought every time.

Good luck, we all look forward to that "new car intro" from you

I got the leakdown test yesterday and the numbers looked good. The full PPI should be finished by Monday. The mechanic said that they are removing the valve covers and checking the head studs but so far everything looks clean.

So far so good.

Good luck, nice looking car in a great color!

Well it passed the PPI with flying colors. The only issue that needs attention is the shop said that both cam oil lines and the oil line to the motor needs to be replaced. They are slightly leaking and will get worse over time. The shop wants $700 to correct including parts. Is this a hard DIY job?

I am headed off to go bring her home. I must say this is the moment I have been waiting for!

Great news. Personally, I think that is a great diy project. Although, the fitting for the big line to the motor has caused a little grief for some.

Congrats YY!

I live north of Atlanta and am looking at a 1985 911 Carrera Targa. I need to have a PPI and was wondering who you used for yours?
