Meaning she used to be a Targa.....and if I were to throw a guess in that vein she also used to be a 911s Targa that's been refitted with an SC engine and a convertible top.
Not that there's anything wrong with that if done well

Well i can tell you the Porsche dealership used to convert Targas to cabrios now and then but it could be done by just about anyone and doesn't mean it was done by the dealer. I guess you already know your cars 2.7 expired so they put in a 3.0 litre. I would not pay even near to market as it is somewhat of a Franken-Porsche but if it is a solid car you could have some fun with it .

Our poster is in Australia, where a Carrera 3.0 was the predecessor to the SC for MY 1976-7. Basically an AL case 2.7 engine with 95mm cylinders. In other words, it uses the 2.4/2.7 crank and rods. Same as the 3.0 930, too. Think it uses the 2.7 style ignition, too. I have one of the 3.0 930 engines laying around "just in case" I get a weird idea to make a light(er) weight, reliable engine for the '73 faux RS.

Thanks for all your replies,
I believe from what i have read that the Carrera 3.0 was not delivered to the USA.
Interesting link here i got from a U.K website.

I think these could become a bit of a collectors item as the were produced in limited numbers and
were placed above the SC model in performance and accessories in that model year.
The engine is a naturally aspirated variant of the 930 from what i understand.

I also found this statement on the site.
.. that the Carrera 3.0 was never officially imported into the United States - the 911S sold there was a variation of the 2.7 litre model with 165bhp. There are a few there now, though!

Very true. The Carrera 3.0 was never imported by Porsche Audi to the USA. During 1974 you had the option of getting a 2.7 litre "Carrera" or a 911S or a 911. In 1975, you could get a 2.7 "Carrera" as well as a 911S. In 1976 they dropped the Carreras from the USA lineup and you had to get a straight 911S, a 912E or a Turbo Carrera. By 1977 the lineup on America was very simple: Turbo or a 911S. Only in 1978 did the normally aspirated 3.0 litre engine show up on USA cars--with the aluminum case 911SC.
