Default Wevo/G-50 Review

I replaced my stock shifter with a Wevo a month ago and thought I would give my opinion on the transition...

The shifter is paired with a G50 trans.
When the car is cold there really isn't much of a difference. It's still a little hard to shift. I didn't expect much improvement here anyway.
I had to remove the stock leather boot because it was too tight and made shifting hard.
Once the car warms up, the benefits of the shifter really kick in. You get very nice solid shifts and there's no guessing what gear you are going in.
It really looks cool. Even with no boot!
The shifter has a good/strong feel in your hand.
The craftsmanship is superb!

Was it worth the 6 bills? From an end-user standpoint, I don't think so. I would have to say that on a $100 bill scale -- I give it 4 bills.

having just re-done my stock shifter and coupling... then spending the time to really understand how the mechanics work so I could adjust it (IMO) perfectly... I have to say...for 6 bills it would not have been worth it for me and thank you for confirming that.

They are nicely made and I am sure they work well....so no disrespect for the makers or owners of them.

In time, you'll forget how much you spent, and you'll be happy with it.

I am curious to know why you wanted the wevo in the first place. I just got back to a manual gearbox after close to 20 years of not driving one. Still shifting to the correct gear seems second nature to me. So I am on Ice's side. I do not know how the wevo would benefit me. Thank you for that nice review though.

IIRC one of the biggest reasons for upgrading the shifter is to aviod misshifts and wrong gears sellected resulting in KABOOM

If your car has the R lock out working fine and the things are adjusted correctly the chances are greatly reduced. I was thinking og going to a Siene (sp) but after I "fixed" mine up, there is NO WAY !

Do people who know how to properly drive a manual gearbox miss shifts especially in daily driving (maybe in the track it could be quite challenging all that rapid upshifts/downshifts). It is obvious that the answer is yes, otherwise why would they even make one.

The fact your 915 is adjusted and up to snuff will not preclude the chances of a missed shift, particularly if you continue to do DE's. I can count on 2 hands, and 2 feet the number of people I know who have done this misdeed. What does the R lockout have to do with it? Going from 3rd to 2nd in mine bypassed R completely...

If I were you, now that you've jinxed yourself online for lots of people to see, I'd order the Seine kit tonight.

Indeed. But, think about how much experience I've garnered in looking at my engine case from the inside out.

I think a GOOD G50 box- fresh synchros and well adjusted, needs no aftermarket parts- My car had a fresh rebuild prior to my ownership and the shifts are crisp, short and very precise- i can shift into 2nd easily even when the car is ice cold- once warm it's smooth as hell but just notchy enough ton know by feel which gear you are going into.

I think a lot of worn G50 boxes give people the wrong impression as to the accuracy and efficiency of the G50.

Some of the missed-shifts I can count on hands and feet were in G-50's...

But, you can plug "915" into your last sentence, and that would apply to even more opinions. Heck, apply it to your first paragraph and it fits. The 915 is a fine g-box. So is the G50. Either can be pulled into 2nd or 3rd at the wrong time, under the right circumstances.
