Default poll - Remove A/C belt for DE ? - no voting, just say

wondering if removing the A/C belt for an upcoming DE is a good idea?

I realize the simple answer might be more complex but I thought before I just did it maybe some people knew a reason not to (or agreed it was a good idea)

TIA

No.
Just don't turn the AC on.
Belt just drives the AC pulley. No load on that until you turn the AC on and start the compressor.

Save your time, leave it on.............................but turn AC off!!

no-no not remove the AC - just the belt (unless the belt is really heavy

if my AC ever dies I will pull it all...but it works well - I was just thinking about running higher rpm's for longer periods of time and the effects it might have on the ac

Yeah, about a 1/4 pound of weight savings = more speed. I am just joking.

I've seen many cars DE'd with belts and they were fast.

There's no way you'll gain enough RW horsepower to even notice the difference. Leave it on.

Does a tenth of a second on your lap time matter? You'll have more fun if you forget about trivial things like this.

Somehow I have given the impression I wanted to go fast - that is not at all what I wanted to do or why I want to remove the belt

The reasone for thinking about removing the belt was simply to save running the pully at high rpm's for longer periods of time than would be seen as a daily driver. I was thinking if I remove the belt the ac won't be subjected to that - that was my only reason for asking.

I am not nor do I think I am fast. I don't want to shave time or weight. I just wanted to save running parts at high rpm that didn't need to be run like that

Man, this went south

No, It's still North.

With the AC switched off the magnetic clutch on the AC compressor will be disconnected. And then the belt will only be driving the the compressor pulley.
The pulley's bearings should be more than capable of taking anything the engine can send to it.
No chance of damage here.........it's all good

If you are staged in the car with a helmet, gloves and a long sleeve shirt even the anemic Porsche AC might feel good.
