1988 is what generation 911?
New to the forum, not to porsche
What generation and what forum should i be looking under for maintenance advice for a 1988 911 targa?
964's are 89 and up
930s (as i understand) are only the turbos
Which forum do i belong in?

You belong right here, because the '88 was the first-gen 911.

an '88 is at least a 3rd gen 911...
1st: SWB (65-68 "O" series + "A")
2nd: LWB (69-73)
3rd: "safety era" (3 series... "mid year" 74-77 / SCs 78-83 / Carreras '84-89)
4th: 964 etc
5th: 993 etc

[QUOTE=Helios59;7552462]Yep, the SC (made from 1978 to 1983) is also first-gen.
What are you doing here? Go drive your new car!
Just a crazy on-call weekend...saving lives in the hospital. But you are something I tell you.

The Porsche 911 was identified with a series number for many years, the first being the series "0" cars along with A and B. That included the 1964 through 1969.
The next series was the C and D cars--1970 and 1971.
E and F includes the 72 and 73.
The 74 - 77 series cars were the G, H, I and J cars.
Immediately thereafter, Porsche referred to the 911 as the 911SC (1978-1983) and then the "Carrera" in 1984 through 1988/9.
This forum deals with the traditional long nose 911 models (to 1973) as well as the next series G, etc.) up through the pre-964 cars.

This is an intriguing question. One that I guess is logical but is so hard to answer.
A few days ago a dude starts talking to me at a stoplight and he goes "Hey! They ought to re do Porsche and bring back the old school flares and tail you know? Da old school is da only school!" I gave him a thumbs up and then the light turned green.

Technically speaking, there is still some erroneous info here, I believe:
8/87-7/88 is a J program car, then they went to K program from 8/88-7/89.

You're in the right place for 911 info.

The program letters started over in model year 1980 with A again. And they always skip "I". So...
1980 - A program
1981 - B program
1982 - C program
and so on
1987 - H program
1988 - J program
1989 - K program
1980 - A program
1981 - B program
1982 - C program
and so on
1987 - H program
1988 - J program
1989 - K program
