Default 911SC - introduction and some questions

Hi all, I've been away from the forum for some time but have recently got myself back into a pre-89 car and wanted to re-introduce myself back to Rennlist.

As a daily driver I've now (again) got a 964C2 but of more interest to this forum might be my new track car, a 911SC. It has a fair bit of history as it raced in - and won - the Porsche Club Championship a few years ago in the hands of multiple-champion Ben Demetriou. As such it's a full race car. When I bought it I had it made road-legal again so I can drive it to the track. The car had to remain relatively standard for the race series so runs a pretty standard engine and transmission but everything has been rebuilt and upgraded where possible. It is fully stripped and caged and no fun at all on the road (no heat exchangers, no door seals = cold!) but on the track it totally comes alive and has been fantastic fun so far, including a recent trip to the Ring.

Now that the car does not need to pass race scrutineering I'm keen to do some basic upgrades and wonder what people would suggest? In particular I'm thinking of the changing the air box for an aftermarket kit plus running bigger wheels. The car is currently on 15" BBS alloys which look lovely but I'm looking for a larger contact patch and less sidewall movement. Can anybody help with the following questions?

1. What are the induction kit options for a 911SC?
2. Can I run 16" or 17" wheels? The car is very low at the rear in particular but runs a lot of negative camber so I'm hoping something bigger will fit.

TIA for any suggestions for the above plus anything else that might help me enjoy it even more.

ps - it's fantastic to finally have a 911 for the track with no power steering, the 915 box and that beautiful noise, it's brilliant!

Fair point! Some more from The Ring - I'll get some (clean) stationary shots soon too.

Come on Ice, you've got nothing to complain about.
I work with a lot of New Zealanders' and everything's "Sweet Bro."

Kusee pee, welcome really nice car.....why does it have 964 sills on it? I'm lead to believe that they are the only ones available now. Did it have a rust repair job??

Nice!

You're out of luck on airbox choices unless you change your injection to carbs or ITB's.

964 sills? I'm not with you? The side sills have been removed and there aren't any 964 bits on it...?

G'day,

The welded in sills have the recessed areas with holes in them for the plastic clips that hold the 964 plastic sills on.

On early cars (pre 964) the sills didn't have the holes.

Ah, interesting. I see what you mean. I have no idea about that one I'm afraid! The racing history of the car can be seen here:

G'day Ice,

You can remove your sills by taking off both end caps and then sliding or pulling out the rubber strip. under the rubber are the mounting screws. The bottom of them is fastened under the car. I don't think there is any need to remove them.

A panel beater friend of mine had to replace the rust damaged sills of a 78 car and could not buy the early ones from Porsche. He told me that the 964 one where all that was available.
Because the car he was working on didn't have sill covers on it, he had to cut, weld, and fill all the holes that were in the 964 part.

So can anyone advise on whether I can put 17" Cup IIs on the SC? I've got a set on the 964 which I'm thinking of replacing and putting them on the SC instead. TIA.

Cheers ice, yeah I saw your Cup 1s and figured that the Cup IIs must therefore fit no problem. My only worry is that the SC is very low at the rear and I'd rather not have to change the suspension set-up for them to fit. My Cup IIs are original and I think they'd be a good wheel to track with, being lighter than the Cup 1s too.
