Not exactly. DE or track car, maybe. It's a Porsche with an engine transplant. Absent the obvious of Club Racing requiring a Porsche engine case as a basis, even in the GT classes, the engine is a minor, minor part of what makes a race car a race car. I'll take 100+ HP less and put my preparation effort into suspension and tires.

Although I'm more a fan of the pure factory stock thing (but not so **** as concours...I still like to drive) I have to say I really like the look of this thing.

Rules:
1. It must be older than 1979.
2. It must be badass in an oldschool kind of way.
3. If it is a 356, it may be a replica, but it must have started as an accurate replica.

looks like a lot of f'glass on this site, but i guess adds another definition to "outlaw" porsche.....which was where my 1st posting started

perhaps lot of kit cars in this link (which are really nice) but i suppose you might define as some of you have any tube chassis f'glass bodied car as such which may not do justice to correctness of the build.....but above all its a personal thing right?

I love the new avatar JoAnne, of all the things one can take from it; I can't help but feel like something bad is going to happen the paint on that 993.

RGruppe is pretty tough to get into now. Lots of great cars in the country that the Rgruppe doesn't even know about. Robert knows a few of the original guys that started it way back when, and it was easier to get in back then. I think they would like our new project, but being we are in Arizona and they are mostly in California, and heavy in the Bay Area, I can't see that ever happening. We'd have to drive to an event and HOPE they were there and then hope to get an invite..... Hope, Hope, Hope. Beg, beg, beg. Begging isn't our cup of tea. Besides, I saw a few Rgruppe cars in Monterey during the Historic this past August and honestly, they were not even close to nice. Might have had a killer engine, but if they aren't showing the engine and the car is sitting there with RGRUPPE stickers all over it and looks icky that's not helping the Gruppe. Then there were other Rgruppe cars that made me absolutely drool. I know our car is going to be very cool and that is enough to make me (us) very happy. Now if only the carpet kit that we ordered and paid just a few bucks short of a grand for would fit...... and it appears it doesn't. Only ONE piece fits correctly. Methinks they cut it for a '87 Turbo or Targa and not for an '87 Carrera. And to think we ordered it from the 'best'. we've contacted him and we'll see what he says.

Sometimes...... grrrr............. Isn't this fun???

Ohhh ivangene, I know exactly what you mean. BAD is exactly what I'm really thinking - whatever that 917 case finds it's way into. That is what you mean...right?

What do you want to know about R Gruppe? I go back to Day One of that stuff, standing in the windblown parking lot of the College of Alameda with Cris Huergas in 1980 with our newly acquired 911's chatting about Porsches. The '69S that my cousin built into the R "wannabe" for him, and was the poster child for the movement, was first offered to me when he found it in his neighbor's driveway because he didn't have the $4K to buy it! Imagine, a decent 911S that no one wanted for that price.

My other friend, the one I built the totally authentic (down to the ex-Peter Gregg front spoiler) RS for, wrote up a little different history of how the whole thing started here in Oakland in the early '80's...................
