Default Spring's Here And I'm Buying Stuff...

...for the car you see on the left.

After 12 years and 42K miles, it's time for a new Fuel Pump. No problems yet, but I think the time's right.

I'm also replacing the O2 Sensor, ICV, and Cylinder Head Temp Sensor. My service records only extend back to '98 and none of those three have been replaced in that time. I've owned the car since May of '09.

Since my credit card's already smoking, do you have any other recommendations to keep her starting, idling, and running smoothly?

'86 with approx. 73K miles. No leaks, doesn't burn oil, occasional puff of white smoke on start-up, then she's off and running.

Whoa! Hold on, why are you buying all this stuff? Return everything else. I might get a new O2 sensor, but I'd want to know that the car was running slightly rich first.

If you don't already have a cat bypass and chip, get those before buying parts you don't need. If you already have those, then get a digital multimeter, a fuel guage, an Innovate Motorsports LM-1 slightly used (newish wideband O2 sensor if you can find one). These things will help you diagnose problems and replace only the parts that need to be replaced, when they need to be.

The fuel pump on my '85 died shortly after I bought it (i.e. the car), luckily in a convenient place.

Fuel pumps are one of those things that will stop you dead on the side of the road. The other stuff on that list (ICV, CHT, O2 sensor etc.) are not as likely to strand you, so I would agree wait until they start to show symptoms.

If you want to spend some $ on providing extra peace of mind, then a fuel pump is not really that bad an idea. It's a personal choice related to how much you fear being stranded I suppose!

If you don't have one already, as spare DME relay is a great idea. Rusnak's suggestions are great.

I was always told "if it ain't broke don't fix it". How I wished I listened to that advise in the past with my previous toys.

I agree with the fuel pump if only for piece of mind. I'd tend to let everything else on your list wait.

How about a complete factory tool kit , spare fuses, a fan belt, and a DME relay for roadside problems?

Now I am nervous about the fuel pump. Not sure when mine was replaced. Is it a DIY project?

Rusnak is right, probably not wise money to just start replacing parts 'cuz you thin yours haven't been replaced.

PDAPCA- anything is DIY, but it is up to you. The search button is your friend to get more details on a given project.

OK, I see that some people might have some peace of mind having a new fuel pump. 42K miles is not enough to start worrying in my mind, but if you must, then shop around. It's the same as the 944 fuel pump.

My glove compartment's already stocked with spare fuses and DME relay. Multimeter's also a good idea.

OK, more questions. Fabspeed vs M & K...I've read that Fabspeed muffler fitment isn't always the best...how do the cat bypasses fare? Would you recommend an M & K instead? I don't have to worry about emissions testing in Maryland, so the bypass and chip are sounding good.

I guess I'm just in "spring cleaning" mode and want the fuel management system fresh and spruced up.

Valve adjust.

CO set correctly.

Remove battery and paint pan.

Check Alignment.

Lower to European heigth and install turbo tie rods and bump steer kit.

Add a oil temp gage kit.

Take a long trip.

Valves adjusted. CO's looking good.
Battery: one year old, tray's clean.
Alignment pending.
Euro ride height: done. Turbo tie rods: pending.

Long trip: check. She's no garage queen!

Having thought some more about it, the one other thing I would suggest doing, regardless of how good you think the current ones are, is change the fuel feed lines (unless you've already done that).

so being new to me, my list is

Turbo Tie rods, done before me
valves adjusted 1 month ago
got to check battery
ride height - good
alignment - good for now, till I get better torsion bars (done a few months back)
Oil Temp kit.... hmmmm, I will do a search

adding Wevo coupler, thermostat vyton o-ring, oil press switch, one window felt, motor and tranny mounts to "sport" -

Thinking CHT sensor, checking tool kit, spare DME/fuses

wanting 22mm front 28mm rear torsion bars, new shocks, g50 sways, Wevo gate shifter

long drive - when this rain stops!
