Default 20 year old DME - up close

Heres what my DME looked like (its the origainal one since 1989) thanks to the Hong Kong Humidity I guess.
This was the cause of a litany of starting and ticking over and stalling issues over the past 6 months, to be honest the three Carrera specialists here in HK diagnosed the AFM which it wasn't. cost me 500 USD for that piece of useless information.

It was you gents on this forum who tipped me off, I just changed it yesterday and hey presto...runs as smooth as silk !
Thanks guys !

So that is the DME relay, what did the DME look like? I wonder if it looks as bad as the relay. Any pictures of that?

That is only the relay. The DME is really a circuit board and related goodies inside the large silver box next to the relay.

Those are some great pics. I bet many don't take the relay apart, just swap it out and be done with it but that is great to see. You need better techs out there becasue even i know about that relay and I don't even have one !! I bet that is a high current line for the fuel pump or something..moisture combined with heat will cause that exact type of corrosion. Usually actually caused by a bad connection in the first place that greates a lot of heat on that line

Glad your up and running. I would say well worth the price of you becoming a member no ?

Use bright lights and magnification to inspect the solder joints, especially at the high current devices....

I've been told by many to always have a spare DME especially since since I have 2 3.2's. This thread is a good reminder for me to actually buy the dang thing !

+1 on the extra DME relay. You'll also need a 10mm(?) socket since it is bolted to the floor under the driver's seat
