84 Targa. Owner says oil is from a hose that only produces output during the winter months while sitting. He says it does not leak when driven regularly. Does this seem reasonable. It appears the oil may be coming from the area indicated by the subtle arrow. Possibilities?

my '87 weeps from an oil return line (or 2) in the winter cold (very cold this yr) when I haven't driven it for a week or more just like that one. you are going to want to replace all 675 at some point (how much oil on the floor & oil smoke can you tolerate?). I would include it on the final negotiation hit list.

Well, now I wonder why people live where it is cold enough in winter to have their oil return tubes shrink enough to leak.

But, I also wonder why my car only came with 4 of these?

a weep, or seep is not uncommon in motors. When you have the time and it makes sense. fix the things - if it becomes a "leak" thats another story

My 996 would drip a couple drops one day, and 29 days later do it again? I didnt see the need to tear into it, but when the clutch gets ready to swap... then I would have dont it (sold the car)

I had something similar with my oil return tubes (That's what your arrow is pointing to.). One time, when parked for a month or so, my 911 leaked an Exxon Valdez slick. After taking it out for a drive, it was back to a little seepage here and there. These things move around with heat cycles and sometimes take a bad seat upon cooling. I'm inclined to believe the owner.

That is fixable with an expanding oil return tube, without pulling the engine. I think I have two or three of them and they're yours for postage. There's a good article at Pelican to guide you.

I was joking about the pushrod tube. On the old aircooled VW flat 4 cylinders, the camshaft is driven by the crank via gears inside the case. Two pushrods per cylinder (one exhaust/intake) traveled from the inside of the case thru "pushrod tubes" to rocker arms on the head. They also are intended to be oil return tubes(per 911) returning oil from the head back into the sump. A 911 retains this design as stated - for oil return to the sump that has been pumped out to the heads/cams. A 911 has one chain driven camshaft outside the case on the tops of the heads on each bank - 2 cams (one per bank)directly actuating the valves eliminating the pushrods.
I would not want to mislead anyone with my bad joke. (nobody ever laughs at my jokes).

since I am new, I saw the tubes and know the old VW's... its was an easy mistake. I have yet to even jack upmy new ride... sorry I am behind on the engine specs.

I have no idea where your missing tubes went, but my count indicates how often I get under the 911 in winter.
