Gonna try and fire it up soon and see what else needs to be done..I know brakes, wheels, tires and lots of little things.....For the future though--what is the best engine swap for the 71 911t??? Very cool.....AS IS. I could see some wheels on it, but not an engine swap. Unless of course you are going all in.

this is fellow Rennlister Jack Olsen's car.

Pretty much everything has been done in engine swaps, from other 911 engines to Subaru flat 6's to Chevy V8's. What are your goals for the car?

The 911 looks nice.

Yeah, just about anything will fit, but it would be a shame to mess up that 911.

That is a car that could appreciate over time if you fix her up and you bought her well. Do a transplant, and all bets are off.

Original=valuable. If you want a faster car buy a newer car. Creating an R Grouppe hot rod ( I'm going to pay for this) is sacrilege. Sorry guys but I've got to say keep it original. I know some guys do an amazing job recreating very rare Porsches but original cars such as this are hard to come by.

I don't think anyone that has posted here disagrees with you.

Looks like a great find. Rust is the bugaboo of the early cars and you when you find a clean one, that puts you so much ahead. I put my vote in for keeping it original. Some very good reasons have already been offered up.

Marc has stated it well. Some of the R Gruppe cars are superb, but they have undoubtedly taken serious effort and resources to get there. IF you do a magnificent job on the car it will have value. However, the typical car with a motor change and some mods and updates is far less valuable than an original condition car.

If the current engine is not usable without a rebuild, consider storing the # matching orig engine and swapping in something a bit spicier, like a 3.0!

OTOH, it really depends on what you want to do with the car. I have a 71 911T, and it has a rebuilt stock 2.2 that is more than adequate for nice weather cruising and backroads fun.

If your engine eventually needs a rebuild, there's a few things you can with the original motor without modifying the case beyond original (an example of an unreversable mod would be modding the case to accept 2.7 cylinders or similar).

You could use your iron barrels with 2.2E pistons and E or Solex cams, rejet the carbs and run an E distributor (or have yours rebuilt/recurved). = ~30 more hp.

If you have Qs specific to your 2.2T, I may be able to answer some. Tell us more about your car!

I have an original 914-6. I owe my mechanic friend a lifelong debt of gratitude for talking me out of countless stupid modifications in my early Porsche ownership. In too many cases enthusiasm overcomes restraint, and then something special is lost. The car is bone stock, except for a steering wheel, and 65 series tires, and I am forever happy about that.

Unless there's something horribly wrong with it, I'd keep that car as original as possible. If it NEEDS an engine, sure go as big as you can fit easily. Nice car and welcome here! Post some more photos after you get it cleaned up and fix / replace those wheels.

"Creating an R Grouppe hot rod ( I'm going to pay for this) is sacrilege."

I'm all for R Grupping - a factory tradition & Ferry approved of owners modding their cars to suit taste. Might not wanna waste a nice pre'74, since there are so many donor midyrs & SC's laying around. Better to have a sound chassis than a "correct" MY - it's a replica anyway.
